Blank Movie Length

Blank movie length on Conversion tab, and also empty 'aspect ratio' frop-down. As such, 'GO@ button is disabled. All software d/l'd and installed (twice now), and several different DVDs attempted, same situation for each.
What basic step am, I doing wrong?:confused:

Just press DVD button (near go!); or Open - and choose ifo file, if you have ripped somewhere dvd.

Hmmm..
We didn't get too far with reading the DVD2SVCD guide which is linked to from the stickies at the top of the forum and from the software homepage.

This bit comes is "Step 1"!

As a relative newbie myself I feel I shouldn't be too harsh on you but it helps keep the forum free of irrelevant info if you do your research before you post!

@Nick WOW you are now on my hero list. We need more of you guys around here. This warning and letting newbies know that they need to read the info that is Stuck, says Mandatory, Has an exclamtion point and then there even is a guide I spen three days working on, is just getting tiring.

I am getting way too frustrated with these people too lazy to read something that says DVD2SVCD Guide and FAQ.

There are only so many times I can hear the excuse, "get off my back I am new.".

Thanks for the constructive advise. Maybe not everyone is as newbie as you once were.

So, I went through the FAQs, guides, rules etc AGAIN. There is nothing that states that the movie length dropdown box will be empty, AFTER I have either clicked on the DVD button or selected it via browse.
So, I installed on works PC, and did exactly the same, but this time, hey presto, the movie length and aspect ratio are there. So there must be something 'wrong' with home PC. It easily meets minimum spec, any other thoughts ? Positive contributors only need respond.

does this count as strike 2 ?

win98 on 'blank' result, 2000 on works.
have checked other posts, and win98 seems ok for others. Could it be some middleware prob ? although I'm sure latest of these are installed.

@briceanus your not going to last here long with that attitude, the fact is we have rules if you dont wanna follow them then you know where the door is at. If you want a strike 2 then break a rule my friend and i'll be glad to give it to you.

OK, we were a bit quick to jump down your throat. Sorry.

However, in our defence your post was worded in a way that fooled pretty much everybody into thinking you stuck your DVD in the drive and expected it all to start like magic.

Looks like you did your homework and your only crime was an ambiguously worded post. Still, you won't have to hang round this place long to see some of the crap people pass off as questions and see that they really deserve to get shot down in flames!

I can only think this may be a drive authentication problem. Having never had one I am guessing here. Use your software player to play a few seconds of the DVD movie and then launch DVD2SVCD and try again.

If you have tried this already and/or it doesn't work then give us MORE INFO:
Hardware specs
Make and model of DVD drive
Title, region code, aspect ration of discs you have tried.
Other software on your system which you think may be relevant etc.


This isn't a problem I've had or heard of before. But the more info you give us, the more chance we can help you.

Maybe it's a matter of installing the ASPI drivers. You can download forceaspi from doom9's download pages.
