Preview Window

The new version is great, thanks for that.:D

But I always get the following error message when I`m trying to open the preview window:
"Access violation at address 7E412D0B in module 'AVIFIL32.DLL'. Read of address FFFFFFFF"

I already reinstalled the whole bundle but the message still occurs.:angry:

Has anybody an idea what this error message means and how I can get the preview window to work?:confused:

A little more info please.

What are you doing AVI, DVD, DV or other?
What options have you changed?
Does this happen with all sources or just one type?

Whats operating system are you using also, and what type of hardware are you running with?

This error occurs by doing DVD and AVI all the time. It doesn`t matter if I`m converting directly from the DVD(CD)-drive or doing it from the HDD. I`m using the standard options of D2S.

I`m working under Windows ME with a Pentium 3(1 GHz) and 384 MB.

Although it should work I do not believe this program was ever tested for Windows ME. I believe the only tested OS's were 2000/XP and maybe 98.

Since the release of this version you are the first to have a problem with this option that I know of.

By any chance do you have another OS on that machince to test?

If you don't use this option does it work for you otherwise?

@WeiserHai I have a dual boot system with Windows Me and Windows XP
i just tested the preview window in dvd2svcd and it gives me a Kernal ERROR in Windows ME, now if i do it in xp it works fine.

@Bach i know that windows me is a buggy os thats why i've went and tested it on a solid system with ME and it gave a kernal error. The fact that it did that on a system that is rock solid with a fresh copy of Windows Me tell me that there is a conflict some where.

Now I tested the preview window with 2K and XP on my machine and everything works fine, so it really looks to be an ME specific problem.

By using ME D2S works perfect except of that preview window. It`s not really necessary for me to have the preview window but it would be nice to see what I`m going to encode before the process starts.

WeiserHai I am glad that it works for you otherwise and I agree that it would be nice to have.

May I make a suggestion?

Create a bug report and see if you can include in the email the exact error message with the memory address as well. The more complete the easier it will be to attempt to fix. This feature is new to this version and I don't know if it can be fixed.
However I am sure if you are as complete as possible DVD2SVCD will at least look into it.

I am one of those that has never liked ME. I actually think 98SE is a better OS, but ME does have some features that 98 does not and for some people that is what makes them stay with it even though they are aware of potential issues. Personally of all the MS OS's I like XP the best followed by 2000 and lastly 98SE.

If you have the ability too I would upgrade to XP, but that is just my opinion.

One nice feature of XP is that you should find it easier to use other programs while DVD2SVCD is working. A hint change the process priority to IDLE on the MISC tab.

this is a long shot but here it goes, install the latest directx and activex soft you can get . who knows it might work.
