View Full Version : MP4-Creation fails with MPEG-quant. matrix, H263 works.

I recently play around with MP4-creation. With some of the latest XVID-builds I always run into the same problem. An MP4 created from an XVID-avi with H263-quant matrix works fine in MPEG4IP WMP4Player, all XVID-avis with MPEG-quant matrix don't (mostly crash). Creation was done with MPEG4IP MP4Creator. Anyone knows why this is? Problem in XVID, in the MP4Creator or in the player?
The MPEG4IP Tools are known not to support everything at the moment (for example the divx5 mpeg-tools incl. b-frames don't work), but just in case it is XVID-related, I point it out here, maybe someone wants to look into it.

The XviD stream is valid mpeg4. The quantization matrix (h263, mpeg, custom) gets written to the headers as required by the spec.
Once more mpeg4ip player lacks some features... but hey, it's all alpha software, so don't expect too much.

No problem, just wanted to know...thanx for telling us. That means Divx5 uses H263 matrix, doesn't it? (Cause DivX5 (without MPEG-Tools) works, too).

I am not a developer, but i believe that yes, divx5 uses H.263 quantization method.
Divx5 shouldn't have any problems decoding xvid encoded using MPEG quantization, but some people still have bugs when trying this.
That was a problem with divx4, but from what i have been reading in the forum, still is with divx5.

Thanx for the info...I wouldn't dare to decode XVID-content with DivX5 :-) There is Nic's great XVID-Filter and there is ffdshow :-) I was just wondering, why WMP4Player also worked with Divx5...
