If I want my movie encoded at 1200kbps, should I set the bitrate to 1200kbps in both passes, or should I give the first pass the maximum bitrate (10000kbps)?
I've tried both way, and honestly I could not tell much difference between them, (I mean the quality of the two rips with different setting.)
But I still want to know what setting I should use.
Any suggestions?

both passes, same bitrates, filters, etc.

Thank you for your quick answer:) That's what I thought, too.
But, is there a certian case where I have to designate different bitrates in two passes? I remember seeing something like that before, which is confusing to me.
Thanks for replying.

What you may have seen was the program DivX4log. It's a program that do some changes to the log-file. I think you was supposed to use maximum bitrate for it to work well, but as long as you don't use a program like this you should always (when it comes to DivX) use the same settings on the first and second pass.

That explains it.
Thank you very much.
