I've been reading about the aspect problems with the Xcard and have decided to encode my movies without cropping. the way I figure with the Psychovisual option enabled it should make that much of a difference anyhow since the black bars will get very little of the bitrate anyway. But, My question is; Is ther any way to increase the movie resolution, not resizing the movie, but just "padding" it? Sort of like cropping in reverse.

Yes ofcause, in the resize filter in virtualdub check 'Expand frame and letterbox image'.

But is there any way to do this without recompressing the whole thing?

also, is the padding done before or after divx gets to it. For instance, is is better to crop the movie in gordian knot first, then pad it in Vdub? or should i keep it uncropped in GKnot and just compress the whole frame?

@ kojima-sama
Why don't you tell us what sort of aspect ratio problems the xcard has?
And you should know, that ALL DivX-AVIs must have length & height divisible by 16.
And I don't think you should add ANY black bars to any of your movies, where did you read that shit!?

Appearently the xcard wants a full frame movie. I've heard it only has 4:3 and 16:9 modes and if you movie doesn't exactly fit the format it's looking for it will stretch it. And Besides 720x480 IS divisable by 16.

but where did you hear this!?
If you havn't an Xcard, why bother yourself!? buy an Xcard than optimize if there is need to optimize!

to add also simply black borders you have to re edit
