Matter of minimum ogg quality

What would people consider to be the minimum quality to use when encoding vobs into ogg format for use as part of multiple streams in a divx3 sbc video?

I create 2cd rips of japanese films and encode japanese, english, and director's comments audio all in quality 1 ogg format.

Is this excellent quality audio I'm using here? Or is it just acceptable/poor/or "smart" since it is allowing me to keep as many of the original audio streams as possible?

Well why don't you do a listening test and trust your own ears compared to what people tell you?

You be the judge and tell us:) I'd suggest encoding the directors comments at q1 or possibly even lower since it's all dialog. I think you'll find q2 or even q3 a good starting point to test the other audio tracks since your target is 2 CDs.

How does it soudn on your system to your ears?
if it sounds good, then thats fine, if it doens;t then it's not and you need to icnrese it...it's up to you....

well... personally i don't trust my ears 100%. at one point in time my ears told me that there was nothing wrong with old l3enc and xing mp3s. my ears lied. :)

actually i encode most all of my movies at 4.99. dialogue requires less, but music/difficult sounds really require more. but i try to get the audio to be as close to the original as the picture, if not more so, so my standards for audio, especially as they pertain to 1 cd rips, tend to be a bit on the high side i think.

As it should be which is why i use 192 ac3 even for 1 cd rips, i'd rather have 192 ac3 and 512x___picture then 720 picture and 96 kb/s oog...after all tv output hides divx artifacts, suround amplifier on a hifi system, amplify audio compresion artifacts :-)
