Hi
can any one point me in the right direction on some information on the law on backing up and copyright of dvd/music/software in the UK? i would also like to know if it is legal to provide a service to backup someone else's media for them , if they do not have the means to do so! :confused:

* by service i mean "none profit"! This is only if my friends need a back up of there "media" , i would like to no if i would be breaking the law or not!

I have always believed that backing up other peoples dvds in the uk is acceptable under British law as long as there is no charge (a charge for the media is ok) and that the person owns the dvd (if he sells it on.. he must destroy the backup).

But lets face reality... coping cassette tapes (audio not VHS) is illegal but everyone did it... its just the same for CDs... no-one cares unless u are making a profit.

cool thanx for the info , i just dont want the feds on my back for something i thought was legal , they seem to change the law on copying every hour!

The Feds came to the UK to collect some hackers
who got into the pentagon computers last year.
The UK police are only too happy to role over for
the USA......................
It was the Feds who knocked on their doors in Wales
with the police assisting them!
