I got a question about the Sharpen and the SMoother filter...

What are their effects and do they help encoding in any way ?
I have 2 long movies...Scarface and The Insider.

And i asked myself if i could sharpen the picture a little bit by using the Sharpen filter.

So the questions again..

What are their effects ?
Do they really help ?
When should they be used ?

Wrong forum for this post but I'll give it a brief answer. I promise to make a more thorough answer if you put the next post in the right forum. ;)

The default nandub smooth and sharpen filter I cannot recommend. For Motion pictures you should be using Temporal Smoother in avisynth´for best results. With anime/cartoons Smart smootherHQ is a better option and Warpsharp should only be used with anime/cartoons as it sharpens by warping pixels rather than "averaging" it to the suroundings (at loss for a better word)
