Hello,

My pc:
Motherboard: Tyan-Trinity 450(Via Apollo Pro 133a Chipset)
DMA set properly due to the Q&A
Processor: PIII 1.0 Ghz
Memmory: 512 mg PC133
Harddrive: Maxtor 60GB
Video: ATI Radeon 7500
Audio: Creative X-Gamer Live
OS: 98 SE
I use DVD2SVCD build 4

The movie I am working with is Armageddon ntsc 2.35:1 widescreen letterbox. I have made this one twice. I will post both logs below, sorry for using all this space. I use TMPGenc 2.53 plus as the encoder, I wish I had cce but I don't. The first make came out fine, except the size was a little small and I noticed it was a little blocky in high action scenes. So the second try I through in a crop of (30,60,660,420) to enlarge it a little and I also checked soften block noise in the advanced tab(settings 35,35)because I was trying an experiment that I read. DDogg has a post about the best settings for tmpgenc. I am sorry he is gone, he had a lot of good information to offer. He stated to try soften block noise and I did. Worked fine. Now to my question, the second time I ran the movie the third cd was 968 mg. I understand that I can throw that file back into tmpgenc and recut it, but I want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong. I hope this is not to petty a question for you guy's and thank you very much, you guy's have great thing here. Here all the logs, the first one is the one that came out the correct cd sizes, and the second on has the third cd size to big. I am going to have to post my second log on a reply, I guess I am to long winded. Thanks again:)--------------------------------------------------------

Your post is so good, but.
Forum Rule!
9) Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention.

Ok two things. 1 upgrade to 1.08 build 1. This had a few bug fixes and I think one of them was the wrong file size when using TMPG. If you still have this problem when you upgrade post again.

Second thing you can download a copy of CCE 2.5 from the Doom9 download page.

i don't know if you go through older threads like this one, but i would like to report a total succes with my problem. with a combination of dvd2svcd 1.0.8 build 1 and cce 2.50 the movie came out perfectly. thank you again for the reply and help:D

Thanks again for the reply, that's cool you saw that. I have another question if thats o.k. Basically regarding the same topic as above, that's why i didn't start another thread. Anyway here goes. This movie is a ntsc 2.35:1 widescreen letterbox, not the same movie as above. The movie length is 113 min. I went back to tmpgenc for the encoder even though i am positively sure cce would size it correctly. CCE runs forever on my pc(about 24hrs), and thats not an issue , but tmpgenc runs faster(12 hrs) which sounds very odd to what i read in the forum. Anyway the second cd is to big 835 mg when using tmpgenc. I am going to run the movie once more with CCE.
But I was wandering if you could help me understand what the differnce between these encoders are. Multipass(cce)vs. CQ(tempgenc)
in the final sizing of the files. CCE sems to hit it on the head and tmpgenc overshoots(weird). Please forgive me if i should of started a new thread or missed this topic in a search. If you think i should disregard tmpgenc completely as the encoder that is an option also.

I have used TMPG in the past, but I am far more competent using CCE.

As far as I know the reason behind your being faster in TMPG then CCE is the number of VBR passes you are doing. The most TMPG can do is 2 while I believe if you wanted to be crazy you can go as high as 10 passes with CCE, but don't hold me to that number.

Even if TMPG was as much as 30% slower on each pass a 2 pass encode will still be faster then a 3 or 4 pass with CCE, but I doubt the video will be as good.

The general consensus is that CCE is faster and better at mpeg-2 while TMPG is better at Mpeg-1.

CCE was the original encoder in DVD2SVCD and for the longest time the only encoder supported. TMPG was added mostly as an effort to let people that have been having issues with CCE still be able to use an encoder. So all the thinking around bitrates and cd sizes is geared more towards CCE.

The one thing I keep having in the back of my mind is a post near the beginning of the TMPG support that said something about the CQ setting having to be adjusted to have TMPG give correct sizes, but I don't remember the specifics and never used it so I am at a loss. I would do a search and see what you can come up with.

If you need speed then you can do a CBR encode, drop the number of VBR passes or maybe even try a 1 pass VBR encode. All of these have been discussed here and if you search you will find plenty to chew on. Basically all will drop the video quality, but how much is often the place for debate. Myself I always do a 5 pass VBR, but I highly doubt I would see any difference in a 4 pass. The only reason I do this is because I have a fast machine and start all my encodes when I go to bed.

Anyway as for TMPG your asking the wrong guy for the most part and for the other stuff I am sure with a search or two you will hit upon enough info to keep you busy awhile.

I was searching and found some very interesting info. from DDogg's later post. He seemed real interested in TMPG. But I guess the fact remains, CQ makes an unreliable file size. Weird, way over my head! Anyway just to share my humble opinion, not that it matter's, about the great debate of CCE or TPMG, using Armaggedon as an example. CCE handles high action scenes just as if they were the original, CQ(TMPG) gets macrablocks for a split second then clears. But as far as the image, I think CQ and CCE(4 pass) run pretty darn close. But I am just learning CCE settings and I haven't tried the sharpen filter, etc. Anyway, thanks again and I'll just keep digging!:)
