DivX5.01 WARNING!!! Don't get Conned, Don't fall for it

Just warning people not to install divx5.01

I'm not sure if it is a bug, or if DXN is doing it deliberately so that they can trick heaps of people into using 5.01 to encode.

If you encode with divX5.01 then you won't be able to watch it with the old divX5 codec. It is not backward compatible!

Why would you want to use DivX5 instead of 5.01?
BECAUSE when you install 5.01 and put the brightness up you get a band on the right that does not increase in brightness. This affects all divx movies after I installed 5.01. I'm not sure if other people already reported teh same problem yet.

TO my surprise, when I installed divx5 it wasn't able to playback a 5.01 encode.

Hi,

I have this happening too. Whenever you increase the brightness or contrast from their default levels, a band on the right of the screen does not change. As far as I can tell, it stays at the default levels no matter what.

This doesn't matter if you leave the settings at default...howver, if you increase the brightness at all it becomes glaring.

Sad, sad... I saw this problems too.
Must tell that DivX 5 is one of most bugfilled software what I saw :( .

Yes, many people have reported it . See the thread divx 5.01 bug?

I experienced this problem too, in addition to the much worse problem that Divx 5.01 wouldn't encode most files at all, giving me an error -2 "wrong input format" when the input format was either YUY2, RGB or YUV12 (which all work with Divx 5.0)

So I will just continue to use Divx 5.0 - but then I will not be able to watch Divx 5.01 movies, which I also find pretty sad...

Let's hope 5.02 will be coming out soon and fix the new bugs...
