Hi!

I have already tried to ask how to edit the Avisynth in some threads. But NOBODY wanted to give me an answer. There are lots of threads with that problem. Of course it's boring for the specialists to answer such stupid problems but for newbies like me it's nearly impossible to understand. :( I thinks it's also time to add this in the Q&A section.

The problem again:

I have an avi file for example 640x300. How do I have to edit the Avisynth file?

It would be really really nice if anybody would give me an answer with an example.
PLEASE!!! ;)

Greetings,
Sozi

it depends on the way you want to resize it. the easiest thing is to download FitCD- this great prog creates an avisynth-file with the correct resizing-parameters. Have a look at it and you'll shurely find out how it works...

Nobody else said something about that program ... strange ;)

seems to be a more locally used program. No idea how well it's known outside germany....

Oh, it is well known, at least to me. I have been looking closely at shh's source to see how he could get so good bitrate calculations. And don't worry, I haven't copied his source, I just used his ideas and I got clearance from shh about that :) I might have a closer look at how he does Avi resizing.

Instead of tagging onto somebody else's thread why didn't you just start a new one? You seemed to get an answer pretty quickly when you did.
Did you post in the Avisynth forum since that is what it's for?
Did you read the Avisynth forum? There is tons of info over there.
Did you read the Avisynth FAQ at the Avisynth homepage?
Don't say you couldn't find it since it's a common listing in the avisynth forum.
It's www.videotools.net

Now lets take me for example. Six months ago I had no idea how to use and edit an avisynth forum. Through reading the forum and reading the avisynth homepage I am pretty good at it now. I did have to ask a couple of generic questions in the avisynth forum, but for the most part the avisynth FAQ and reading other poeple's posted avisynth script in the avisynth forum I figured it out.
The information is there if you just use commom sense and find it. It's not hidden.

Even if NOBODY answers your post don't make a post like this. You sound like such a child when you do. Reword it without the crying.

@markrb

sorry!!! all i wanted to know is how to get it working. i read lot's of threads but i didn't understand anything and there was no thread with such an easy answer. keeping the aspect ratio is a basic problem for newbies and i cant understand why this problem isnt cleart up anywhere.
and i dont sound like a child. lots of people asked about this problem but all they get is 'read other threads' or even nothing. dvd2svcd is a great program - why does it have to stay a mystery!
Don't be afraid ... i won't write anything anylonger!

But NOBODY wanted to give me an answer.
Sounds like a child to me.

You are obviously trying to do something that is fairly advanced and you don't seem to want to take the time to read up on it yourself.
All of the places I have told you to look are good sources of information and with a little effort on your part I am sure you will find the answer there and maybe learn something in the mean time. If we don't have that exact answer you are looking for we try to point you to a place that might actually have the answer.

You seem to want us to know how to do your exact issue and when someone points you to a place that you might find the info you get upset and when nobody knows you get upset. So according to you everyone here should know everything and tell you how to do it. I am sorry, but this just doesn't happen in the real world.

Just because an answer tells you that you might find the answer in another place does not make that answer any less valid.
Would you rather you get no responses or a response that says the answer you are looking for is over there? I don't know, but if it was me a pointer to a better place to look is better then no answer at all.

In my previous post I was pointing out that the tone of the post does not lend itself to actually getting responses. I was also actually trying to be of help.
If you don't like our attempts to help the door is that way.

Lastly I know you are using the AVS file within DVD2SVCD, but doesn't it stand to reason that you want to learn how to edit the avisynth file and there is a whole forum dedicated to avisynth that this might be a good place to start?
There is also an avisynth homepage and an anisynth faq.

We are not hand holders and step by step instruction people. We try and help people find the info they need and help in solving problems. We have shown you were to go.

Read the forum Rules!

1) Read up before asking! There are tons of guides, FAQs and each forum has a dedicated Q&A thread with additional info.

1a) Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.

2) Respect the netiquette: Lurk and get to know the forum before you post.

12) How NOT to post on this forum:

5 minutes after your initial post you reply to your own post writing something like "Why is nobody helping me? I'm sure you know the answer".

Once somebody replies to your thread but doesn't give you exactly the answer you've been expecting you insult them.

So in my mind you have potentially violated 3 forum rules, but I will be nice and just say Strike 1.

@sozi
You know i find it funny when people like you show up, and get a free program free help, answers to questions that if you did a "REAL" search and really read like you said you have you would of found the answer. This is not a daycare center for the stupid!!! this is a forum that people that have the same interest come together and talk about it. My interest is not to babysitt your smart mouth or your attitude!!!

@ Sozi:

You know dealing with aspect ratio is not very easy and it really takes some time to understand all that stuff in detail. When I first started with this I had to read a lot of threads and different sources from the web to understand it - and there is really no easy way to explain it to a newbie I think.

But using the search button with the words "AVI SVCD RESIZE" would have shown you a lot of threads with some explanations in it.

For example this one:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=21190

Read my last posting - it's a try to put the calculations in simple words but I think I did not do very well with it. But it aplies to your question by 100%. So start with it there and do a little teaching on your own.

If I've some time I will put up Q&A entry that covers all possible resizing questions (2.35:1 -> 1.85:1, AVI->SVCD) and I will try to keep it simple but it will be difficult to explain in the few words that are mandatory for a Q&A entry.

But if you can't wait for that you are invited to start/help with it after doing some research on that topic for the benefit on all of us.

Greetings,
Gerti
