second pass is 3 times longer than first (cce in dvd2svcd)

hello,
at first i want to say i am german, so excuse me for my english, it is not the best :)

ok, i am normally using gordion knot or nandub to encode my dvds. but now a friend wants me to make him a svcd for his standalone.
i decided to use dvd2svcd, because also in the past i worked a few times with it, so the differnt settings in dvd2svcd are not new to me. after ripping the dvd seperatly with smartripper, i used the cinema craft encoder to encode it. ok, after starting the whole thing nothing went wrong. in the first pass of cce the number of frames was ~140000 but in the second the pass the number of was ~ 420000!
does anybody kwon why?
i am using dvd2svcd 1.8.0b1 and cce 2.5 with vbr and 3-pass.

the "first pass" which you refer to is basically like the setup, then the "second pass" you saw is the real multi-pass part of the encode, so you must have chosen 3 passes since it was 3 times the first. you can be assured that there won't be any "third pass" that will take 9 times as long though :D

This is the way it's suppose to be. Let me explain how CCE works when you select multi pass VBR.
On the first pass it creates an information only file called a VAF. This is used as refernce for the remaining passes.
It actually goes over the video 2,3,4,5,6, times so it makes sense that the video is 3 times longer then the vaf since it is going over the video three times when you select 3 times VBR.
