View Full Version : bbmpeg error/failure during mux-process

Hi,

I'm using 108b1-version of DVD2SVCD. Tried to encode 3 different movies. Encoded *.mpg files with a size of about 1,6 GB. Then bbmpeg-muxing/splitting always stopped at about 34%. One mpg-file is created with always 528.320 KB size. Error message (window) says: "Unable to write to output file". Also look at the bottom of the log-file for bbmgg-error code. First tried the recovery and to mux the mpv- and mp2-file running bbmpeg.exe resp. runbbmpeg.exe. Both ways resulted with the described error. Second I tried the whole encoding process using DVDX and this works. Third way was to mux with tmpgenc and split with DVTool. Muxing was ok but splitting the *.mpg file results in a similar error message and a crash with one file (680 MB)left.

Because I did not know wether this is caused by bbmpeg or my computer I performed HD-defragmentation, changed the size of pagefile.sys (391 MB currently) and did some special HD-tests. Everything was fine.

Anyone who have had this problem or an idea or help?

Thanks

Please use the correct forum.

I think this might have something to do with it.

What did you use to rip the DVD? If you anything other then the supplied rippers start over with the supplied rippers and see what happens. No other ripper is supported then the supplied ones.

Hi,

Uh, fast reply! Thanks.

I ripped the movie separatly before encoding it using the build in "ripping only" feature. What do you think about the also failing split-process by DVTool? Does this point to a W2K problem? Tortured google but found no solution yet.

Hi there,

I sometimes have these "Access violations" when doing the subtitle verification - but then D2S usually is closing itself on my PC and I never had a chance to go on with it when this error occured.

I usually restart D2S and do the exact same things I did before - choosing the next button to find the next subtitle until I can verify the correct one and continue the process. And usually all goes well then.

Never found out what might cause this error - and I never ever had any single issue with my PC even with well known trouble-makers (Shrek) - no single CCE hang or something like that - so I can definitivley say that my PC runs rock solid and I'm also using Win2k + SP2 + SRP1 and all available patches from MS and never had any problems with it.

So I would say you should make sure to use the internal routines like Mark already mentioned and you should make sure that there was no error during the subtitle verification process.

Hope that helps,
Gerti

Nice to see you again Gerti67. Missed you around here.

I never use subtitles myself so I am not the best person on this one. I only replied when I saw two obvious potential issues (access violation and the chance you used another ripper).

Try some computer testers like the Prime95 torture test and a memory tester like mem 86. Both are linked in the Q + A. It's a good idea to run these every so often even if your computer seems rock solid. Both tend to show problems before they become major problems.

Start the encode over again after you have tested and see if it wasn't a one time thing.

Hi Mark,

yeah, I was a little busy the last two weeks (semester started) - but it's all back to normal now. ;)

I also don't use subtitles very often and this kind of error is very rare too - so I never bothered with it.

I did run every memory testing tool available, the Prime95 torture test and DDogg's stresstest for about 36 hours each without any single error - as I said my system is rock solid (knocking on wood). ;)

So I tend to believe this access violation error might have something to do with one of these possible software (dll) incompabilities or the OS (Win2K) or who knows? - But as I said above when restarting and doing it all again usually all works very well - so I've no clue what is going on there.

So I've only this suggestion to redo all and to look for a possible access violation during the subtitle verification process.

Greetings,
Gerti

Thanks for your suggestions. I did a cpu-stress-test with Prime95 last night. The result after 7 hours is, that there is nothing wrong with the cpu. Even memory is ok. I'm wondering at the fact, that the size of the remained file is always the same (528320 KB)and will do some further tests in this direction.

This seems to be a very special problem.
