HI could people please post the encoding time for their movies below. Please include : codecs version / name , comp spec, movie title , format (pal etc), length & software used. I just finished encoding a 2pass 86 min long movie(bottom 2001:an arse oddity PAL) using divx4 V3 , using easydivx 8.01 and gknot 0.23 with the following results respectivly: 6 hours 19mins , 10hours 23mins! my machine is a 650mhz amd duron with 319mb of ram running win98SE . I am thinking of upgrading my machine to a 1.8XP(1.533ghz) and was wondering if these encoding times would half? ( you can see were i am coming from...with my maths ) :p

P.S. The 1800 is a great CPU to overclock! much better than my 1900.

hi,

i think the chosen resolution is of great matter when comparing encoding speeds, isnīt it?

How do you find out the speed or FPS when you do a Gnot/Avisynth/VDub/Divx5 rip? I just get a screen with a meter and the percent that has been done. No details at all.

Right, when talking about encoding speed/time it's necessary to give all relevant datas:
Resolution and type of original video - when it's big, resize is slower, also for example Mpeg1 decode is much faster than Mpeg2

Resize methode and output resolution.

Used encoding program(s), codec, is audio encoded simult. with video.

For example I get avg. 166 fps when encoded VCD source (352x288 Mpeg1) with DivX 5 in second pass when used mvinfo.bin, in VDub without resize. This is extreme example, normally I have 20-35 fps.

Hi,

Just got done doing my first encode with my awesome new comp....

P4 1.6 Ghz
512 MB DDRAM

Vdub w/ DivX 5.01 Pro, b-frames and GMC enabled, slowest setting

Movie length app. 100min

First pass - 2hr, 10min, avg fps - 18

Second pass - 1hr, 22min - avg fps - 28

This is at a resolution of 704x352 (or thereabouts), neutral bicubic filter.

Not bad for a laptop, eh?

Nice, Dragoman.
And what is source ? Some AVI ? I say it because VDub can't work with Mpeg2...
