Freeze with high vertical res. by A.I.

Interesting thing with DivX 5.01. I encoded Artificial Intelligence, 2 CD rip. When I have vertical res. of 448 (704x448) I get some 10 sec frozen video. It is by scene couple seconds after beginning of VOB5 of movie, by Flesh Fair, when announcer speeks in closeup. DVD is R2 (PAL).
I tried every possible setting, but it always froze on same place.
No matter is it single, two pass, B-frames, querter pixel, quantizer setting, etc. Only if I lower vert. resolution it helps. It reminds me on DivX 3.11, where I had frozes also only by higher vert. resolutions.
Can anybody confirm such problems ? Can it be avoided without lowering res. ?

IMHO the source of your problem has happened while copying your DVD to hard disk.
Once the same happened to me while copying and DVD extractor warned me and I ignored. However my rip had stopped at that LBA sector failure and I had to recopy it (this time authenticating twice).
Maybe that will help your problem.

I've done the same movie recently (also R2 PAL) and I think I remember seeing something similar. I believe that point is where the layer transition happens, but I'd have to check again to be sure (won't be able to for at least 10 hours).

DVD rip to HD is 100 % OK. I said that by lower res. no error.

Anyway, I tested again, and stated that it is playback filter problem. It plays without freeze with DivX Player 2 alpha (suplied with codec), only problem is that plays choppy.
Also when converting it to mp4 no error. But Mpeg4 Player produces horrible output (or converter is wrong ?).

What CPU/memory/graphics adapter are you using? Taking into account that playing Divx5, especially with the pro features, takes a lot more cpu power than divx 4, maybe it is just too much?

Well, I checked it now under Win98SE, and it plays fine.
I suspect that it is Voodoo3 driver problem. I use some unofficial, hacked driver because there is no regular V3 driver for XP.
Or I need to look how to optimize XP ? Turn off some tasks etc... ?

Btw. machine is Athlon@1270, 256 MB DDR, Epox 8KHA+, only video card is little older. And I made this 2 CD rip without DivX 5 pro features, since I doubt that they make problems.
