I´ve made two excellent DVD-SVCD conversion: Fascinating Nature(PAL DVD 82 min AR 16:9[4:3 anamorph encoded]) and Fascinating Nature 2(PAL DVD 60 min AR 4:3) with advanced menu and chapters. The quality is nearly very good.

The key: use the CCE 2.50 with std. matrix, 1-pass VBR 0-2530k, q-factor=68(for movie 1) or 58(movie 2) and many other setting in video & quality stab(according to the best from the guides by RobShot, Mb1, Angel and Andreas). The .avs file is also important: use Temporalsoften 2 filter (setting: 3,4,6 - a little denoising, but befor resizing to keep quality) and Freezframe(start fr., end fr., source fr.) for still scenes and end credits. So a high quality conversion from DVD to PAL SVCD is garanted. Audio: for such a long movie on just 1 CD you should not have a illusion for HQ Dolby-Sourrend sound. So just set to 128k joint stereo(movie 1) or 160k stero(movie 2) in 2Lame. Mux with bbMpeg by using SVCD setting but "I-Frame only" for timestamp. Author with I-Author to save place for my 49+9 still menu pages(no sound).

I am a hardware professional, so i´ve got folloeing fast and ecnomic system:
CPU Tualatin Celeron2 @1441MHz(=131x11), 256k L2-cache($78,00)
only small cpu fan is needed, die temp.=46 degree C.
MB Abit ST6
SDRAM Infeneon 256MB PC133 CL3 but runing @ 2-2-2, 5/7
Speed at Win2k:
for encoding above movies using denoising filter = 0,48 (12fps)
encoding above movies w/o denoising filter > 0,78 (20fps)
In CCE, set a few diffrent q-factors for the movie to meed the final length of CD-R and encode them over night. The computer goes to suspand after finished encoding(all fans stoped!). With one touch an power butten waked the pc up without reboot.

The trick "ResampleAudio" in .avs file is also abs. needed for Tualatin CPUs!!! not only for AMD-CPUs.

For burning, i used cdmage to convert .cif image to .bin/.cue than burn it with cdrdao or nero(cdrwin dont support my LG 24x). With CD-R 80min from "Platium", i can overburn it up to 82:15, so there is a large room to fit the movie onto 1 CD-R.

Cheers
