Greetings!
After spending a month trying to make a good SVCD from a very difficult DVD (Swan Lake ballet 107 minutes NTSC, all dancing and moving - a very good test also), i have realized that if i could do a short time test (10 minutes or so) i would have saved me a LOT of time. Instead of doing the whole movie.
Is that possible?
Thanks

It has been answered a multitude of times. Just select one small chapter in the movie length dropdown box. Use Internal DVD ripping.

I believe this is one of those instances where flaming is not only appropriate, but required.

Wow two people that don't read the forum in the same post. I am amzazed.
If you read 99% of the time WinDVD and PowerDVD XP (also called 4.0) are mentioned.

Hello and thanks.
I don't really understand the scope here: Maybe i did wrong, maybe not, hey English is not my native language (i'm greek) and maybe i just didn't do a proper search. So kill me ...
But after my post, i got 8 replies. What a waste of time, space and bandwidth, saying nothing usefull.
Clearly this is an unfriendly- military type, i could say- forum, that i don't want to participate.

Spending a month without realizing that you could do a chapter or two for test doesn't make you appear a smart, brilliant guy.
Your last post simply confirms the initial feeling.

There's no need to PM, let's make it public:
"Your reply also simply confirms that this forum(s) is somekind of hostile environment for new people to come in.
You should refrain from making such comments, easy when you hide behind your anonymous keyboard. Do you know me?
You are interested in flames and not into helping people. Well i'm outa here .....

But this is getting hairy and i don't really want to do this any more.

Maybe, I should have been more specific...I meant viewing the bin/cue without burning to a cdr...
Seriously..I did try a search for playing bin/cue on pc without burning/wasting a cdr...Bad/No Results that helped me..
Any other suggestions/programs for viewing the bin/cue?
Thx,
PK

I know you said that we shouldn't mention Daemon Tools, but alas it is the only tool that does what you ask. And you seem to be the only one who can't get Daemon Tools to work. Maybe you should give it another shot.
Only other thing to do is to extract the mpg file using IsoBuster, VCDGear or CDMage.

Thx..I guess I will give Daemon tools another try...It just did not setup a virtual dvd drive..instead it setup a virtual cd drive..I thought WTF.....
Hey, btw..GREAT PROGRAM....AND GETTING BETTER WITH NEW VERSION.
Thx,

AFAIK it does not matter what type of drive that it sets up. If you load a cd image then its a cd drive. If you load a DVD image then its a DVD drive. Try installing it again and see if you can load the image and play it in a software DVD player.
Also like DVD2SVCD said I have never heard of another program that lets you view the image file with out buring them.

I've tried Deamon tools, it works perfect.
But you can use Isobuster to 'rip' the iso.

@Bigbucks1959
The only real test is at a standalone-Player. If you don't want to waste your CDR, burn it on CDRW.
You can use the methods mentioned here, but sometimes software-players shows problems which disappered on a standalone.

Well there are different softwares actually that can do what Daemon Tools does ie mounting a cue/bin image for direct check with PowerDVD without the burning step.
I have also started using Daemon but somehow did not work 100% OK on my system (even after removing the app and re-installing) (system=2xPIII 800 with 768MB running w2k), so I went searching the net for a similar application and finally settle for Fantom CD (the maker of CD Mate burning soft). This one works perfectly for me, it does allow me to check with PowerDVD the cue/bin from D2S prior the burning step. Now it allows more than that as it allows to burn (max speed I use 4X, allows overburning as well, nice with 90 min CD-R) the images directly without using another sofware (I guess this is CD Mate burning engine behind). I am using this soft for some months now and it has never fail me (DVD standalone is a Samsung M405).
This is just my experience and it is working perfectly on my system, I cannot speculate for other systems as the burning step of cue/bin file has been reported to cause problems on some PC/burner.
If you have problems with the recommendated tools, give Fantom CD a shot, you never know it might be the winning combinaison for you too.

@bach
I don't know where your problem was, but I succesfully extracted the MPG-file from an SVCD bin/cue with IsoBuster. The file was ok and playable in e.g. MediaPlayer.

I have a comment 2 the initial statement. I have extracted the .vob and .ifo files using DVD2SVCD and later on I decide to encode a single chapter 2 view the quality etc.
Why does DVD2SVCD rip the entire .vob files again (all 4.5GB) . I mean it makes no sense to rip the .vob files again because it's a strain on the HD and it requires space. Could it be possible 2 do encode a chapter without the need to rerip the .vob filez or is that totally impossible?

Because DVD2SVCD has no idea how you got those vob files to your HD. You could have used Smartripper ripping everything (as opposed to just the movie it self) or you could have done a number of things with the vob files. Therefore, dvd2svcd runs through it all when you're using intrenal ripping on already ripped vob files. And that strain upon your HD is BS.

GOOD ANSWER.
I am now going to ALWAYS use the internal routines for dvd ripping.
I had a problem with Willy Wonka audio/video sync until I used the internal routines..
Decrypter was also grabbing the inital warning on the dvd and the audio was starting right away..4 seconds or so off on video.
Now it plays flawlessly.
Thx Again.

OK.......I see ur point. Thanks 4 clearing that up.
Now about the strain on the HD........I'm running my ripping/encoding on a seperate IBM GXP60 60GB which I just got replaced. It died totally after only 4 months use thus I'm perhaps a little bit paranoid about the issue. :D
