Pinnacle has released the new v4.0 drivers. This is a huge update and fixes alot of known issues and adds some new features.
What's new in version 4.0

TurboMPEG Export
The export of MPEG2 format video for DVD and MPEG2-CD production with Pinnacle Impression has been greatly accelerated. Depending on your system, it is up to twice as fast as in previous versions.
Pinnacle Scene Cutter
This filter allows you to quickly split a long video clip into scenes. See the readme for more detailed description.
MPEG2 editing
This version of the DV500 Plus software allows you to edit MPEG2 video directly in the Premiere timeline, simply by importing MP2 video and/or WAV or MPA audio files. These may be mixed freely with DV AVI files. See the readme file for details.
Bug fixes:
MPEG2 export is no longer limited to 4Mbit/s.
Compatibility of the "overlay surface" preview using the Adobe Premiere monitor window has been improved.
The DV500 Plus Video for Windows DV codec has now been verified to work with FlaskMPEG and VirtualDub.
There is no longer a crash when importing a large number of AVI files, even when their audio tracks are faulty.
MPEG2 export using the MPEG CD presets. A bug has been fixed for corrupted audio files (3 times largen than video).
Hardware playback support using MediaPlayer.

The new driver also contains a new app called TRex which is an offline encoder. You can import mpeg4 files, avi, mpeg1/2, and even *.vob files to encode into a format of your choice. I tested the quality of this new app and actually it's not that bad. Anyways if you own a DV500, test it out!!

Thank you SiC.

I was looking for it in Software updates - it's still v.3.0

Under all updates/patches and Software drivers there is the v.4.0.

T-rex isn't part of the upgrade anymore. I didn't get it. So was it a demo or full software?

SiC

Thank you again.

This is v. 1.5 , a 60 days trial. Before your post I get a v.1, a 30 days trial. made some VCD test with it. It is fast and make a good VCD.

I guess I have to talk to Pinnacle.

A new update -.zip file is out. It is the full version with T-rex. On the site the text says it is 217Mb but it is actually 289Mb. Download it before Pinnacle make some changes again.

A very nice useless encoder for you. It can make vcd, svcd, mpeg2 , mpeg4 from what ever you have.

The quallity is almost tmpgenc, up to the footage. You don't have any chanche to tweek the settings so keep using Tmpgenc or what ever you have and like.

It is important only for uss with DV500 card. If you don't have this one and still are interested in T-rex than you can download it from the ftp.pinnaclesys.de.

I do have a dv500, is it better quality than the current export to mpeg2 from premier 6.01 ?

The export to MP2 in Premiere uses hardware encoding but the T-Rex is all software so it takes longer. The quality of the MPEG2 produced by T-Rex actually isn't that bad.
