Divx5 with GMC + QarterPixels played with ffdshow

just tried a short clip of divx5.01 material encoded with gmc and quarter pixel and played it with the ffdshow filter. the result seemed to be slightly choppy.

any ideas?

I'm developer of ffdshow but I'm not developing video decoding engine (it comes from ffmpeg project). I will test DIVX 5.0.1 encoded movies and if there will be problems I will ask ffmpeg developers if they could fix them.

You shouldn't use quarter pixel anyway

Use only GMC & Bidirectional encoding

D: Divx 5.01 (-) B-Frames (-) GMC -> FINE!
E: Divx 5.01 (-) B-Frames (+) GMC -> FINE!

F: Divx 5.01 (+) B-Frames (-) GMC -> CHOPPY!



Used Players:

Zoom 2.50
Radlight (latest)
BsPlayer

=> ffdshow has a problem with dvix 5.01 b-frames (at least on my machine)

Jup, works very nicely :-))))

chroma noise is also a nice feature.

regarding the non-chroma noise, i would suggest that you modify it in a way so that it does not mark the makro blocks.

Hi ffdshow developers

seems i've got anotherone here. encoded divX5.01 with BFs and GMC turned on. the avi without sound plays fine. after muxing to an ogm with vorbis audio, however, the players (zoomplayer, radlight, bsplayer, wmp6.4) startup load the movie and then just shutdown again (i.e. the app closes itself). the error does not occur when using the original divx5.01 decoder.

the movie was encoded with avi synth+virtualdub the vorbis files with ogg machine.

Generally ffdshow works great for me.But i noticed something odd:
I captured some videos with snagit5.0 from cablecrypt decoded programs both in xvid and divx412.For them and only for them,the playback is srewed using ffdshow.However,the defaults filters of both codecs work fine.Strange...

Although I've only tried ffdshow with ogm divx5, so when it crashed my player I thought ffdshow just couldn't handle divx5. Thanks for pointing out that it could just be the ogm (or vorbis, or whatever else could muck up the playback).

I've found that GMC produces chopiness in my encodes, particularly during medium to high panning, or when there are wobbly shots induced by whatever the camera was stuck to for that shot (ie the cameraman, or vehicle).

I use quarter pixels all the time. I don't see anything wrong with it.
