is this a fool-proof method. i read another guide of ivtc in tmpeg and it was really coplicated were you have to check the finished file becasuse the ivtc pattern changed several times in the movie. does these decomb settings ( Telecide(), Decimate(cycle=5) ) take care of the whole movie without errors, and if there are errors, how do you fix them? i have seen many movies that are bad ivtc's som it can't be this easy, right?

You're right, this isn't easy. No, this is not a fool-proof method, it can produce some errors, but it is currently one of the best methods available.
Telecide works on two levels, first it tries to do an IVTC as good as possible, then it de-interlaces frames still detected as combed. This detection can be controlled with the threshold and dthreshold parameters. By lowering threshold (from deafult 15) more frames will be detected as combed and thus de-interlaced. Dthreshold on the other hand controlls how much of each frame that will be de-interlaced. I also prefer to use blend=false to avoid ghosting on de-interlaced parts. Setting both parameters to 0 would force de-interlace of everything, but this defeats the purpose of IVTC.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I tried to IVTC 10 minutes of a Hong Kong movie and it looked good so I guess decomb is really great.
