View Full Version : Splitting AVIs with DivX 5/CBR MP3 audio

Heya.

I know this has been discussed before but apparently without conclusion.

I have an AVI encoded with DivX 5(.01) and B-frames enabled. It also has a CBR MP3 audio track. Now I've read that VDub has issues with B-frames (at least up to .9). The new version apparently has support for those. But it still lacks the support for CBR MP3 audio.

So how do I split that file? Fire up VDub, split the video only, fire up Nandub, somehow split the audio only, then use Nandub again to join the split results from VDub and Nandub for all parts?

Thanks for the help.

Do you perhaps mean ABR/VBR MP3? Both Nandub and VirtualDub can handle CBR well.

What happens if you try to split the complete movie with nandub (if you in fact meant ABR/CBR)?

Silly me. Of course I meant ABR (or VBR for all it matters). I haven't tried using Nandub only so far as people reported major problems with B-frames. But I'll try.

Back again. Well.... I assumed (first mistake :)) that I'd have problems because others have problems aswell (see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19912&highlight=split, librex's post). Then I didn't try it for myself (second mistake). What can I say? Nandub works very well with my tested AVI (have only tested one).

So for now I'll just try Nandub and will come back when I really have problems splitting those files.

Perhaps using 5.01 helps where 5.00 fails? Perhaps using VDub 1.4.10 for encoding helps where 1.4.9 messed up? I don't know.

I've used Nandub to add VBR MP3 to DivX 5.00 without any problems. I haven't read that thread you linked to that careful so I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, either way, I'm just glad it works for me :)

Set the video to direct stream copy as per Doom9's guides and it won't examine the video stream. B frames, Codec, or anything else.
