Not 5.0.1 and not a cracked 5.0 codec.

I'm keen to get into 5.0 ripping and have tried 5.0.1 but it has a strange artifact problem (smoked strip down RHS edge)

Doom9's downloads only point to 5.0.1

thanx :)

If DivX5.01 has those artifacts then it's about 99.5% certain DivX5.0 also has that problem....

actually I think he refers to a playback filter error 5.01 has. The 5.0 pro codec only is still on my server so if you look in the old news you should find it.. it's just not listed anymore in the software section since it's old software.

I repeated the rip with DivX Pro 5.0 - no sign of the "smoked strip" down the RHS of the screen, as was seen when 5.0.1 was used.

Then it's indeed a playback filter issue like Doom9 suggested. By any chance, did you get that while watching a DivX5.0 encoded movie played back with the DivX5.01 filter? I've seen a few other reports of the new version having issues with 'older' content. :(

No, it was a DivX Pro 5.0.1 rip played back using the DivX Pro 5.0.1 filter.
