It's a pal movie, Mists of Avalon.

BitrateViewer says:

Pic. structure: Frame
Field topfirst: Yes
DCT type: Field
Quantscale: Nonlinear
Scan type: ZigZag
Frame type: Interlaced

I thought alternate scan was better for interlaced frames, why has the dvd zigzag scanning order?

Anyway, the problem: I encoded the movie with cce, I used avisynths interlaced resizing and used the same settings in cce as bitrate viewer shows.
I didn't check linear quantizer scale and HERE, I did check zigzag scanning order. I thought: the source looks good so why change. That seems to be wrong thinking since the output went looking bad.
Peoples faces was very unsharp except when the faces were zoomed in.

So should I deinterlace or just use alternate scan instead of zigzag?

Btw, I used bilinear interlaced resizing.

I'm thankful for any replies.
