Invisible codecs

I have a quite annoying problem concerning my codecs. When I try to capture using VirtualDub, things works okay. But when trying to capture using AVI_IO, I can't select any codec! The only visible codec is Cinepak Radius (which is quite useless). However if I select any other format than 24-bit RGB, I don't get any codec at all (no compression).
Other codecs I have installed are for example huffyuv, divx5.01 etc etc. Anyone got any idea why my codecs aren't visible in the standard Microsoft-select-codec dialog?
I use Windows XP (Swedish), but I've noticed the same problem in the past when using Windows 95/98. Hints anyone?

On the capture card format window, select a format like YUY2, or UVUY (Anyone saying Interleaved 4:2:2, etc) These formats allow you to capture using Huffy and Mjpeg, etc.

I use the Capture mode in Virtualdub and select "SHIFT-F" to bring up the extended format options screen.

Then going "SHIFT-C" I can select the codecs there.
