The SB1394™ firewire port on SB Audigy Player

Hi, I just got the Soundblaster Audigy Player soundcard and It has a Firewire port on it. In the product details it Mentions that you can connect SB1394™ compatible devices to it. It mentions the possibility of connecting digital video camera's, as well as their D.A.P players CDr/rw external burners etc.

I have a Sony Digital8 camera and want to use Adobe Premier and DVD2SVCD to convert the home movies to svcd's.

The port looks exactly like an ieee1394 port, has anybody tried using this yet with any success?

[added ] I also have a 2 port firewire capture card and StudioDV from Pinnacle as mentioned in a new post in the dvd2svcd basic topics forum, but thought I might scrap using all that if this port would do the trick.

Hi,

I have exactly the same sound card. As far as I know, the Firewire port is not different from others. So just have a try. I never used myself, but one can never know when such thing comes in handy.

I guess, they just call it SB1394 to make it a little bit more interesting for the customers. As far as I know Creative keeps a compatibility list on their homepage. Anyway, the port is already recognised by the standard Windows drivers without installing the Creative drivers in the the first place (that's in Win2K). So I don't see any reason why Firewire devices shouln't work.
