How are things going with ogg ?

Is it possible to compress a AC3 file with ogg and still get 5.1 sound in a Divxcoded AVI yet ?

We have been doing this for quite some time now using HeadAC3he and BeSweet:) We are muxing multi-channel Vorbis into an Ogg container instead of AVI. Check out the Alternate AV forum for more information.

Once you get familiar with 5.1 Vorbis then please check this thread out regarding WinAmp support. Your help would me much appreciated.

Ive read somewhere that the current directshow filter for playback of Multichannel (5.1) Ogg sound didnt play well... is that fixed yet ?

Not sure where you read that but if you remember the thread I'd be happy to correct them:D

In fact 5.1 Vorbis plays back nicely. The only real issue we face right now with multi-channel Vorbis is that were getting full bitrate on all 6 channels. This makes for very large files. The Vorbis developers have already started discussing this so we should expect a solution sometime soon.
