Frames dropped in 5.01?

When encoding in VirtualDub from an Avisynth script,
using DivX 5.01, the resulting file seems to delay
all frames by one following a keyframe. When viewing
the output, the frame following the keyframe is a
duplicate of the keyframe, then all subsequent frames
are delayed, until the next keyframe, when the
frame that should have been before the keyframe is
DROPPED! I've tested with both VirtualDub 1.4.5 and
VirtualDub 1.4.10 with the exact same results.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I havn't noticed this, but even if it's true, this has no influence on synchronity, so I won't worry about it too much

Upon further testing, I have found this problem to
occur only if "Bidirectional Encoding" is DISABLED.

Hi,

Old bug. DivX 5.0 had a two-frame discrepency.....DvN seems to have corrected this to a 1-frame error.....

Can't tell visually, and no effect on sychronizing w/ audio = no problem for me....:p

I have notice that same problem in DivX 5.01. It seems to duplicate some frame. But that dont make in DivX 5.0. Look that is new bug because in old version this not happened to me. Also 5.01 compressed movie dont work in DivX 5.0.

which vdub did you use for the encoding
I thought this was a problem with old vdub witch did not properly support b frames

I use Virtualdub 1.4.10. That bug is only on newer 5.01 and i read from DivX.com forums that DivX maker know that bug. They told that bug is decoder not in encoder. So it not make any bug on encoding video, so when new version of Divx 5.0x come there is no problem to watch DivX 5.01 encodet video.

Yep. Same problem. Done a lot of movies that are messed up until I turned on bi-directional encoding. Anyone know of any side-effects of using bi-directional encoding?
