View Full Version : Just an Anamorphic question

First: I always encode in 4:3, as I have a WS TV.
The other day I did "Behind Enemy Lines" R1 which is 2.35:1. I used 1.0.8 build 1 and set it to the new setting: "Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9)" so I could watch it properly without any fuss on both my PC and my standalone. Checked the preview, it was OK. Mounted and checked the finished bins in Power DVD and Elecard and for the first time ever, they both showed the correct aspect ratio without resizing manually.
Burned it, checked it on the PC (ok), put it on the standalone (a Cyberhome 212) to a 32 WS TV and to my puzzlement, it was cropped left and right!(like using Zoom). The player's zoom doesn't work on svcds. I couldn't get it to show the whole frame, no matter what. I tried a chapter from "Stargate SG1" which is "full" 1.85:1, same thing. Didn't have time to check on other standalones. I'm not complaining, nor asking for a solution. I'm back to my old favorite "4:3(no borders, encodes as 4:3)" which is perfect for my standalone.
It is probably a quirk of my player or my TV, or I missed something in the "read me" but I thought I'd mention it for future reference.

have you set up your dvd player for widescreen tv?

Yes. In fact I tried all the aspect ratio settings, both from the TV and the standalone. As I said, no problem, but thanks for replying.
