One disk with two movie versions, how to choose?

I have a disk with two movie versions on it... the theatre release and the special edition version.

My guess is that when the special version is selected when playing in a stand alone player, (which is 28 minutes longer), other vob files are substituted.

Is there anyway to get the special version in DVD2SVCD other than watching each vob to see which files need to be inserted into the rip files? (I think that's how it would be done)

There are also several ifo files which I think go with the various vob files.

The movie is the abyss and I'd like the special edition version but I don't know if I can pull it off.

dvd2svcd used to auto select the largest ifo file. Now though it auto selects the .ifo with the largest time length. So most likely it's the special edition..wouldn't ya think. Guess you'll have to wait 10 to 15mins and view the ripped vobs to be 100% sure though. Only time I manually choose if it's a dual-layered dvd which has both full and wide screen so I'd usually choose the one smaller .ifo in size for wide screen. Now that's easy to determine since we have the preview window.

That makes sense but I think this movie is more complicated in how it goes between versions. There are five groups of vob files. Group four is the main movie with eight files. The other vob file groups have one to two files. There are matching ifo files with each group. I think instead of duplicating the complete movie, different vob files are substituted in or out of the main vob movie group depending on the version selected.
Anyway, I played back the movie before burning and I'm going to try another rip...
