View Full Version : Problem with Anamorphic SVCD's in Ver. 1.0.8 build 1

Moved to a new thread by request.

I ripped Disney's El Dorado yesterday. I set the aspect ratio to 16:9 anamorphic and used CCE CBR. The encode is PERFECT! Plays well on both my PC and Apex 500.

I ripped The Lost Boys last night, 16:9 anamorphic, CCE 5-pass vbr
and it's trashed. When played on my standalone the video shakes violently from side to side and I'm experiencing color shifts. At first I thought Nero screwed up the burn so I tried Fireburner and it refused to even try, informing me that track 2 was illegal. Next came Blindwrite and while everything checked out fine the resulting disc was doing the same dance. It plays perfectly with PowerDVD and in Daemontools just not on my standalone.

I went straight to the mpegs and dragged them into Nero's SVCD template and same thing.

Here's my info on "The Lost Boys".

The only differences between the two DVDs are as follows:
El Dorado is an Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1
The Lost Boys is "Widescreen".
Both of these are Region 1

Question is why? s it possible that if the DVD isn't an anamorphic DVD than the anamorphic option in DVD2SVCD won't work?

There is a diference between anamorphic widescreen and just widescreen DVD's. I have been looking around to find out exactly wha tthat difference is, but I have been having no luck.

So does this mean that I can only use the 16:9 anamorphic aspect ratio option on DVDs that were originally manufactured as anamorphic?

Reason #1- I'm an idiot

Reason #2- I redid the DVD without the anamorphic aspect option and had the same results so obviously the aspect ratio had nothing to do with my problem. I had simply assumed it had which leads me to reason #3

Reason #3- I'm an idiot!!

However I will get to the bottom of this. Ripping once more after a few tweaks.

Hello!

No, you're not an idiot :) I have exactly same problems with my Daewoo DVD-5700 and 2 DVDs I tried to rip. But I noticed, that if I first insert any DVD, let it start to play movie and then insert my anamorphic SVCD - everything works perfectly!
Did anybody else face this problem?
I now have 4:3 TV, but I hope to buy 16:9 one sometime. And I wonder what variant is better to use - "16:9 encoded like 4:3" or anamorphic setting? I personally think that anamorphic is better because it doesn't waste disk space to hold this black bars. Am I right?

With best regards,
Zelya.

You're a little off the subject but you are right about the anamorphic being "better" because it doesn't waste bits on black bars.

But, if you choose, you can set "16:9 encoded like 4:3" and you can always edit the AVS script with a CROP command, adjust your Resize and AddBorders to reflect the crop. Best way to do this is to check "Edit AVS after DVD2AVI". While DVD2SVCD is paused at this point, open up the DVD2AVI project file in DVD2AVI or TMPGEnc and use the crop function just to see how much additional black bar you have to remove (crop), eg 2.35 to fit on a 4:3. Go back to to your AVS script and edit it accordingly. If you press "save" you can then open the AVS file in Windows Media player just to see if your edit was correct.

In this manner, you will not waste bits on black bars and it will play fine on your 4:3 TV.
