Hi Ikerr, my name is Alejandro, and i live in Uruguay, a little country in South America, so i speak spanish, and english not so good, but i will make a try......

It is really nice to see that m2a is not dead.....i still use it as my favorite choice because i usually do the encoding at night while i sleep, and because of that i use a .bat file.....

Dont bother about the GUI, most of the people that use m2a, don´t use it (i guess, this is my opinion), it would be better if you could use this time for adding a better resizer and a good deinterlace to m2a...

BTW, i use divxauto40b.exe to choose the codec, but i saw that you changed the title of the window where you choose it, so my .bat stop working......

OK, thanks a lot anyway, and keep the good work......please, don´t leave us just like OGO did....

Some features that I'd like, if possible, to see in the next GUI version: automatic 2-pass mode and shutdown when encoding finishes. FYI, both these options are supported by the simple_frontend GUI of chi (latest v0.08), alas the auto-shutdown does not work in Win9x/ME...

* added direct conversion from ac3 to wave using azid.dll

And my TODO list is :
* add windows position to commandline options
* add priority from mpeg2avi to commandline options
* add normalize option for wave / mp3 / ogg
* add samplerate conversion from 48 to 44.1 khz using ssrc.dll
* make it possible to convert different streams to different audio formats.
* add conversion from ac3 to mp3,ogg,aac

The first two TODO's are maybe already solved by your mpeg2avi ?(There was also some other new version from mpeg2avi floating on the net.)

I decided some days ago that development on mpeg2avi was still interesting and therefore i decided to put mpeg2avi on sourceforge. (https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpeg2avi)

I still haven't found time to upload the sources officially to sourceforge but my version + code can be found at : (http://www.geocities.com/my_mirror_1/mpeg2avi/mpeg2avi_0.1.5e.zip)

@ Iker, I would higly suggest we / you will try to merge the 2 versions into a new version and put everything on sourceforge so that the source stays opensource and development is central.

Hi people.........is really nice to see that m2a is not dead and have some programmers/fans around the world yet.....personally, i think is the best tool, but, this is my opinion, of course....

I tried the new project of PX3 and other people (DVDx 1.8a) but has a lot of bugs yet.

Hope you could, at least, do a better deinterlace, because i think this is more needed than a good gui......
The other day i made one musical video (Madonna-The inmaculate collection) and Rush Hour I and not even God could synchronize its videos and audios...

I had to "learn" how to use dvd2avi, avisinth, virtualdub, etc etc (i know that gordian knot does, but i prefer things made by hand, he he he) to make this movies.......no thanks....

I still have faith on you people, really.

Hi, I'm very happy. :) I see there's a lot of people that love mpeg2avi (like me) and uses it to encode DVDs. It's better and faster than Xmpeg, but difficult to use (not a problem, yeah!!). I use it since 1998 and I have compressed 40 or 50 DVDs with no problems. I think it only needs to be optimized for speed, a better interface and better deinterlace.

I'm only optimizing it, not adding new functions (important new functions). I think the audio is better decoded by BeSweet (very good job), and I prefer keeping mpeg2avi to decode only video VERY FAST. I haven't a lot of time (I'm finishing my career). Soon I'll post the sources. If somebody wants to modify them, I'll be very pleased (I have used Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect final).

Try to implement a new deinterlacer (although you can use the one that's included in DivX 5) In Europe, we use 25fps and we don't need to deinterlace the films (only extra content of the DVDs).

Hi, CyberDemonII.

Please, try to improve speed in your modification of my sources. Your mpeg2avi 0.1.7 is slower (is as fast as 0.1.5c). Check what code you have included even when you don't extract audio (with the '-a' option), because it's slower. I have modded a little bit mpeg2avi to make it faster an better. Please, speed is the best advantage of mpeg2avi over Xmpeg, so check it.

Modify your readme.txt because the TODO (* add priority from mpeg2avi to commandline options) is already done and you have repeated version history 0.1.6. The best is to re-download my new sources and modify them again (also the readme.txt that contain).

If you can, try making a better deinterlacer, filters and resizer instead of adding audio. I plan to remove ac3 demux from mpeg2avi, because there are other programs much better and faster to do it (SmartRipper, DVDDecrypt, XMpeg, etc.) and BeSweet to compress audio to .mp3 directly (have you tried BeSweet with DanniDin's GUI? It's a GREAT work, very, very good). Mpeg2avi is only to convert video, decompressing audio only slows down it.

But all the modifications I'm doing are directed FOR ME and MY FRIENDS (and all who wanted them, they will be always in the same link: Program: http://www.euskalnet.net/ikerrg/mpeg2avi.exe Sources: http://www.euskalnet.net/ikerrg/mpeg2avi_016_src.rar) and I only need to increase speed because mpeg2avi does exactly what we want: it compresses video perfectly, without jumps between VOBs and very fast (it only has problems with RARE interlaced films like "2010, Odissey 2").

;) I TOTALLY Agree with ikerrg, there is no reason to spend anymore time to add/develop audio functions in encoding programs, one reason is the quality issue and the other is that is more convenient to treat audio "separately", 1st by encoding to Vorbis or MP3, 2nd encode video data (when you know the size of audio track you can enstabilish bitrate for video...).

The BeSweet AC3-to-float -> float-to-Vorbis/MP3 is giving simply outstanding results and is more similar to a transcoding than a reencoding process ;).
So, there is no convenience to still use intermediate WAV files anymore... ;) (now you can save time, space, quality of course)

no offense for the job of every freeware coder.

One thing that could be included in mpeg2avi with a certain priority is x,y crop instead of limited centered crop.


P.S.: I don't have used HeadAC3he but the results should be similar to BeSweet.

1st-pass
0.1.5 = 3 hours 00 mins
0.1.6 = 2 hours 49 mins

2nd pass
0.1.5 = 1 hours 54 mins
0.1.6 = 1 hours 42 mins

(0.1.5 is the same speed as 0.1.7)

Can anyone also do some speed tests ?

great to see that there's further development on my favorite encoding tool. but due to the fact that i have dsl for some months, i'm pretty lazy when coming to encoding movies and therefore the development of tools related to ripping/encoding just passed me. i guess there are a lots of posts to read to keep up. nahh anyway.. is there anyone out there still using my frontend (never tried that with divx5, but i think there's some work to do to make it running)?

Now you can download the new version of the tools. Now it shuts down correctly in "any" OS. Tested in Win2K/XP and WinMe.

It looks like your GUI doesn't support paths or filenames with spaces for the output file, as it doesn't add the quotes and the command fails.

One question. I use to IVTC via Avisynth (mostly Decomb) which is very reliable, how does mpeg2avi's IVTC perform compared to it?

Congratulations to you and everybody who is improving mpeg2avi, it's a really fast tool that I had almost forgotten cause I thought it was something from the past.

Don't use output filenames with spaces. I'll check it, but I think it's a bug of mpeg2avi.

I don't use IVTC. All my DVDs are PAL.

Soon I'll upload a new build of mpeg2avi 0.1.6 (build 32) a bit faster. You should test SSE iDCT because I can't (I use an Athlon). I'll post here when it's uploaded.

@Chi Hey man I ALWAYS used your frontend but last month I had a HD crash and haven't been able to download a new version. I use to post a lot of ideas for it on the old mpeg2avi forum if you remember. Your GUI was by far the best mpeg2avi GUI I have ever seen. Shoot me an email or post telling me where I can get now 0.08 Chi!

You guys should seriousluy think about teaming up (atleast if simple.frontend is still being developed). I think a further developed mpeg2avi + very nice GUI would make mpeg2avi very popular again.

Your new gui looks very pretty.

First can you explain what option max quality for Divx5 Pro means. I suppose b frames, GMC and Quater Pixel. But what if I don't want to use Quater Pixel but want b frames and GMC?

Divx5 Pro is able to creat also a bin file with motion vectors. What about this?

Thanks for support for ogg but it is only 2 channel. Are you planning to add option to create also 6 channel ogg audio.

In the GUI, be careful with the "Auto shutdown" option in Win2K/XP. I think that it could cause data loss because it shuts down only with the EWX_POWEROFF flag. Soon (when it's tested) I'll upload a new fixed version of the GUI.

Your GUI is very cool man! The only problem I am having with it is this: The 'get time from movie' box is checked and grayed out by default, and it is reading the time to be 30 seconds instead of 123 minutes

It took me a bit but I realized this was because 'frame range' was checked by default and set to 0-999. Heh my bad!

Can one of you guys PLEASE put a minimize button on mpeg2avi? It has always bothered me 'show desktop' is the only way to get it out of the way, and even then you can't send it to the task bar. I know someone else must be able to relate!? :P

1.It seems that the mp3 audio is very fast when checked for 48khz!!!.
2.dvd2avi_gui cant detect correctly either ntsc/film whcih leads to audio sync problems and the video formate filed is alway "Unknown" no matter what type of vob file u open.
3.The movie length is not correct (always less 3/4 sec) than the original length(checked a test file of 1m30sec with wmp8, dud2avi_gui shows as 1m27sec)

And what about low/normal/fast mostion options!!!!!

These are some tests of mpeg2avi and XMPEG:

8000 first frames of "Pearl Harbor" film (DVD PAL)
Codec: DivX Pro 5.0, 1-pass at 1004 kbps, no B-frames, no GMC, .., keyframes each 250 fr. (and in scene changes). Other settings default.
Computer: Athlon 1333 (10x133) DDR chipset AMD761.
No audio processing.
Resize: H: 720 (no horiz. resize) V: 408
Crop: H: 704 V: 304
Bressenham filter and Optimized MMX iDCT for Xmpeg
32-bit MMX iDCT for mpeg2avi (faster than 3DNow iDCT)
YV12 output for both.

Mpeg2avi 0.1.5c (it's faster than 0.1.5d): 4' 55"
XMpeg 4.5: 4' 50"
Mpeg2avi 0.1.6.32: 4' 48"
Mpeg2avi 0.1.6.35: 4' 47"

The differences between them are increased while the time elapses. The quality of all the .avis obtained is the same. I can't find any difference between them.

Please, Doom9, make test to mpeg2avi 0.1.6.35 and update your software links in www.doom9.org. Your latest mpeg2avi is 0.1.5d.

Just a suggestion: Is it possible to make cropping more flexible? To enter exactly how many pixels should be cropped from each side (respecting mod 2 horizontally on YUV/YV) instead of just centering the crop window?

When checked for Ogg audio in dvd2avi_gui... everything goes well
till ogg muxing and in the status info i see Ogg mux started and finished.. and here its says forever, it never completeds the final avi.. all intermediate fills are created, ogg, and avi(without audio)
I am able to play ogg file.

Has any1 hv the same problem.

I am using win2k pro sp2, latest oggds0991 filter.

Hey, I was just wondering how development is going on dvd2avi gui. I always use your gui since about last month and find it really really cool. I was wondering if it is still under development, and if yes what features are in the works?

I would sugest 6 channel OGG support and xvid support at the top of the list.

If you ever want some help let me know, I would be glad to write an updated guide/make logos/help with website, especially if it gives you more time to work on GUI itself. I really think your GUI is whats needed to bring some life back into mpeg2avi! (and Ikerrg's development of mpeg2avi itself of course)

Actually I just left my latest Rip-Package mdvdit 3.5 (q-bert.c4.to) and started from the beginning.

My idea is to create a all-in-one solution, a bit like yours, but only for these new 800-Riff-Filters, containing DivX or Xvid with ogg audio & ogg subtitles.

Wanted to know if you're interested in helping me with this small GUI. I would really like to take yours as base. IT's really the coolest GUI around. I would just like to split the ac3 and mp3-parts and enhance the audio (not only 1 or all languages but ability to choose) and subtitles (Subrip source was released) section, for making it smaller & easier. I think there are quite a lot of GUI (like easydivx) offering quite a lot of features, but none of them is perfect. For example, in your GUI, I can only rip one or all languages, in easydivx it's just two, but in most cases I use three languages (default for my old mDVDit): German, English & Commentary.
So I would prefer a GUI which has less features but these should be usable completely individual, so just take 0x80,0x82 & 0x85, for example.

What do you think? Help me? (since I'm just starting on VS.NET, what do you use for your GUI?)

One more small question: How do you make it that the results of m2a-preview are shown in the GUI and not written to m2a.bat?
