I'm used to using NanDub v1.0rc2 and DivX3.11a for all my DVD rips.

However I've just started looking into using VDub and DivX5.01 - am using the Doom9 Guide for this.

My questions re 2-pass DivX5 ripping:

1. The Guide says to use Fast Reprocess (not Full Processing Mode) - any reason for this? Doesn't seem to be much quicker. Also VDub flashes up a warning about not using this unless the codecs are
YUV->RGB compatible - how to tell?

2. When either the first or 2nd pass is proceeding, should one be able to see anything in the Video pane of the Status dialogue? In the Main pane, the numbers change as one would expect.

3. How to tell the maximum size of the AVI so one can calculate
1st Pass %?

thanx

1) Fast recompress allows you to skip RGB-YUV conversion
2) HuffYUV is part of the GKnot package - Choose "color space YUV 2:2:4" in dvd2avi
3) Use Gordian Knot to calculate the average bitrate you use for both passes. There's even a methology and utility to do compression checks... see the DivX5 forum.
