I just tried 108b1, CVD subtitle no longer works. The .bmp files are there and they looked ok. Switched back to 107b4 and did the same movie, subtitle worked again.

Just tested CVD subs here, and they do work. And I have no idea why they shouldn't work by you. Myabe you should try uninstall and reinstall dvd2svcd.

Ok, I did some more testing and I might have been a bit too fast before. The CVD subtitles does show here, but they look as they wrap around just a little bit. However, a good guy by the name of new_age has converted submux to a gui (accepting the same commandline options as submux) call WinSubMux, in which he has fixed a lot of bugs originally in the submux program. I have been allowed to attached it here. I have tested it and it works good. Just extract the attachment into a folder somewhere and in dvd2svcd in the subtitle tab point Submux Executable towards WinSubMux.exe.

What happened was I tried to convert only 1 chapter using 108b1 and the CVD sub didn't work. I then convert the same chapter using 107b4 and the CVD sub worked. I then went ahead and convert the whole movie using 107b4. Interestingly, the CVD sub worked but only for the first 85% of the movie, for the remaining of the movie, the sub simply disappeared.
I am going to try the Winsubmux and post my findings here later.

i did some testing on this subject, after doing numerous of chapters and encoded 2 full movies, and watched them all the way to the end, the winsubmux prog is a winner for me the subs look good and fully working.

I'm using CVD subs with v108b1. Although the subs are generated correctly, there appears to be a timing issue as I progress through the CD set. For example, if I create a 3 CD backup, the CVD subs on disc one are perfectly in sync with the character speaking. However, on disk 2, the subs appear about a second before the character begins speaking. On disk 3, the subs appear about 2 seconds before the character begins speaking. In other words, the subtitle out-of-sync issue appears to get progressively worse as I proceed through the CD set.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior using CVD subs? Any suggestions to correct? Thanks.

from BruceCharl's post it sounds like it might be a problem with bbmpeg offsets or the CD overlap offsets.
@BruceCharl: have you tried WinSubMux.exe? If that didn't work, try setting your CD overlap to 0 seconds and see if that works.

pacohass, I'll try both suggestions and see if either make a difference. Make take some time, though, since I have to process/encode the entire movie to determine if either suggestion works. Thanks.

I have tested CVD subtitles in DVD2SVCD ver. 1.0.8 build 1 and
the job stops prematurely with the following message
'' is not a valid integer value
This message occurrs when DVD2SVCD goes to save the subtitle timecodes. In fact the .sub and .txt files are not created.
The same problem happens with SVCD subtitles. I have checked this on two different computers.
In previous versions, subtitles worked fine.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Has anyone some clues to avoid this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Tried 108b1 and WinSubMux - CVD sub failed again (only tried 1 chapter). Tried 107b4 with WinSubMux on the same chapter - CVD sub worked. Tried the whole movie using 107b4 and WinSubMux - CVD sub worked for the first 85% of the movie and failed at exactly the same point (see my previous post). Checked the .bmp files and I can see the missing 15%sub there. Looks like the problem is not extracting the subs, it's with the muxing.
I am thinking about going back to use I-Author and give it a go. I think may be it's something funny with this movie with both English and Chinese subs. I have ripped many movies before, some with 2 subs and they all worked fine.

Re: the missing 15% of subtitles
Tried I-Author - same problem with missing subtitles on second CD. I think I found where the problem is. This movie is only 95 min long and will fit into 2 CDs. But I can see there are 3 subtitle files for each language ie en1-1, en1-2, en1-3, zh1-1, zh1-2, zh1-3 (both .txt and .sub files). The missing subtitles are in the en1-3 and zh1-3 files. Is there any way to recover from this. I mean it should be easy to merge the en1-2.txt and en1-3.txt files (and zh1-2.txt and zh1-3.txt) but I don't see any easy way to merge the orresponding .sub files.
Each Cd is about 47 min long. Looking at the first sub file (en1-1.sub and zh1-1.sub) the subtitle starts at the begining of the movie and finishes at about 47 min. So this is ok. The second sub file (en1-2.sub and zh1-2.sub) starts at the begining of the second CD and finishes at around 27 min and that explains the missing 20 minutes of subtitles. The weird thing is the third sub file (en1-3.sub and zh1-3.sub)- it starts at around 47 mins.
As I have reported, this problem applied to both 107b4 and 108b1. Any ideas?

Hmm, very strange. Would you mind mailing me a bugreport (make one in the log tab). Then I'll try your setup here and see what can be done about it.

In a previous post in this thread I have described a problem with CVD subtitles in the last version of dvd2svcd. Fortunately, I have found that the problem occurs when in the subtitles tab the option "min between subs" is set to "0 ms", and it disappears when a positive value is used. However, "0 ms" works fine in previous versions.

hi..
I have the same problem with synchronizing subtitles on the CD 2 ou 3..
I tried to use submuxGUI but it doesn't recognize the files *.sub or .txt generated by DVD2SVCD(unknown format).
Same thing with timeadjuster (i'd like to add an offset to the subtitles timing but no success). What is the program which generates the subtitles files in DVD2SVCD ?
thanks a lot for your responses.
PS: what does mean "min between subs" ?? (I'm french) is it the minimal time between the presence of two successive subtitles on the screen ? and why is this parameter present ?

Seems that in the last build of DVD2SVCD some changes has been introduced in the code relative to the building of the .sub files.
As I have said in a previos post in this thread if "min. between subs" is set to "0 ms", the message box
'' is not a valid integer value
occurs and the task stops without creating the sub files. In previous versions this problem does not happen.
In order to avoid the described problem, I have set "min. between subs" to "1 ms", but then the end timecodes of the .sub file are not correct. For example, the entries of the first bitmaps in a .txt file produced by Dvd2svcd 1.0.8b1 are the following:
es100001.bmp 00:00:45,02 00:01:49,17 304 72 200 408
es100002.bmp 00:01:49,18 00:01:53,21 418 72 143 408
es100003.bmp 00:01:53,22 00:01:57,49 460 72 122 408
es100004.bmp 00:01:57,50 00:02:00,89 238 66 233 414
es100005.bmp 00:02:00,90 00:02:03,73 298 72 203 408
es100006.bmp 00:02:03,74 00:02:06,49 362 66 171 414
es100007.bmp 00:02:06,50 00:02:09,49 428 72 138 408
es100008.bmp 00:02:09,50 00:02:12,01 432 38 136 442
es100009.bmp 00:02:12,02 00:02:18,17 418 66 143 414
Seems that the end timecode of each bitmap is computed from the start timecode of the next bitmap, instead of the end timecode in the
vob. For this example, the entries given by subrip are the following:
es000001.bmp 00:00:45:05 00:00:50:24 304 068 212 432
es000002.bmp 00:01:49:09 00:01:53:03 416 068 153 432
es000003.bmp 00:01:53:10 00:01:57:08 456 068 128 432
es000004.bmp 00:01:57:17 00:02:00:20 232 062 246 432
es000005.bmp 00:02:01:02 00:02:03:14 296 068 213 432
es000006.bmp 00:02:03:23 00:02:06:09 360 062 176 432
es000007.bmp 00:02:06:17 00:02:09:09 424 068 143 432
es000008.bmp 00:02:09:17 00:02:11:20 432 050 144 458
es000009.bmp 00:02:12:05 00:02:16:03 416 062 156 432
Notice for instance that the end timecodes of the first bitmap are very different.
The same problem occurs in the .txt file for Iauthor.

I do NOT believe you can see the difference of 1 ms. That is 1/1000 of a second.
needle

@DVD2SVCD
Is obvious that I can not see a difference of 1 ms. However
the difference is not 1 ms. In my example the end timecode of the first subtitle should be about 1 minute smaller that the end timecode of DVD2SVCD states. Moreover, I have checked that when I used the .txt subtitle file obtained by DVDSVCD as
input of the Iauthor muxer (following the method I have described in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23375) the
the subtitles do not work in my standalone. This problem does not occur in previous versions.
Furthermore, when I used the .txt subtitle file obtained by Subrip, the subtitles work fine.
Notice that in the timecodes of the .sub file build by DVD2SVCD the following pattern occurs:
end_timecode(bitmap_i)=start_timecode(bitmap_i+1)-0.01 seconds.
Is this pattern correct?
Why "0 ms" in "min. between subs" does not work in Dvd2svcd 1.0.8b1 and it DO work in previous versions?
Thanks for your attention.
Best regards.

1. I wonder why you compare the results from SubRip. DVD2SVCD and SubRip has never been equal in timecodes. Case not valid!
2. end_timecode(bitmap_i)=start_timecode(bitmap_i+1)-0.01 seconds.
I do not see that pattern.
Send me a mail and let's see if we can solve this together.

I can confirm from my experience the subtitle txt file created by DVD2SVCD may not be compatible with I-Auther. This is at least true with this movie I am ripping at the moment.
I my previous post I mentioned that using 108b1, the CVD sub did not work. Using 107b4, CVD sub worked for 85% of the movie, then disappeared. I have tried muxing using I-Auther and using the subtitle txt file created by DVD2SVCD with no success.
I then tried SubRip. Using the txt file generated by SubRip and muxing using I-Auther worked fine. Also, the sub worked from the beginning to the end of the movie.
I noticed on the txt file (created by DVD2SVCD)for the second CD, it ends like this:
TIME: 2732.11 ENABLE_OGT
TIME: -2840.59 DISABLE_OGT
Notice there is a "-" sign in front of the time. I am not sure if this is causing any problem.
