DivX5.0.1 encoded stuff won't play with DivX5.0,..

Just wanted to mention that at least an all my machines stuff encoded with the (add free) DivX5.0.1Bundle won't play with the DivX5.0Bundle,.. but if both are versions are mpeg4 compliant shouldn't it work?

Same here. DivX 5.01 files won't play with 5.0. Plus, 5.0 files play choppy with the 5.01 filter.

Now that's pretty bad. While the new versions are all kinda buggy it should be possible to play the newer files with the codec predecessor. Divx 5.01 doesn't work well for me, so I wanted to stick with 5.0 for a while
In MS Word, a new file-format will only be introduced every once a year or so and it's bad enough.... but Divx 5.0 has only been released a few weeks ago!

While I haven't tried (and don't plan on trying) playing 5.01 encoded material with the 5.0 decoder, I have playbacked 5.0 encoded material with the 5.01 decoder, using either WMP 8 or the DivX Playa, and haven't noticed any problems. The Playa works better than WMP, but that was the case before I upgraded to 5.01 as well.

I experienced the same problem and noticed that in the "Details" tab under the file properties, the info shows the video as 24 bits while in 4.x and 5.0 the videos encoded with fast recompress where shown as 16 bits. So I think that DXN changed the format somehow. Talk about backward compatibility...:rolleyes:
However, the 4.12 directshow filter plays both 5.0 Pro and 5.01 :confused:

try ffdshow ( http://cutka.szm.sk/ ). I have installed neither DivX4 nor DivX5 and I can play AVIs using either of the two codecs without problems. As I nice additional feature ffdshow can also play M$-MPEG4 ( = DivX3.11 ). I've tested ffdshow with DivX5 AND DivX5.01 clips I dled and had no probs.
