View Full Version : Computer freezing at different times during process

I purchased a dvd-rom and a 40 GB HD at about the same time, and I got my Dvd-rom first. So, i experimented with DVD2SVCD before i had my harddrive, ripping and encoding only 1 chapter of a dvd.. which worked perfectly. I received my HD, and when trying to do the entire movie, my computer freezes. Twice it froze while BeSweet.exe was running, and another time when CCE was running.

I have:
950 MHZ Athlon CPU
320 MB RAM
40 GB HD
6.4 GB HD
40X20X40 CDRW
16X52 DVD-ROM
I am also running WindowsXP

I would have to say it's a problem with your computer. Try testing it with Prime95's torture test, some good memory testers, Sisoft Sandra and maybe some burn-in testers. CCE freezing is not uncommon, but it doesn't freeze the whole computer and I have never heard of a problem with BeSweet. Try hitting the computer boards and see if they can offer some help. I highly doubt this is a DVD2SVCD issue and as such is really beyond the scope of this forum. If after you have thoroughly tested the computer and it passes all of the tests fine then try uninstalling DVD2SVCD and re-installing it.

Yeah markrb is totally correct cce should not be freezing up WindowsXP never has for me when cce crashed. I have only froze up WindowsXp one time, and that was cuz i did it on purpose to see what it takes to freeze the operating system, and let me tell you it takes a lot so i'm guessing you have some type of hardware failure could be memory could be the hardrive or motherboard ect...

I just added Q53 in the Q&A, it could apply to your situation:

would it matter that i have DVD2SVCD installed on 1 hard, and the output directory is on another HD?
the 2 HD's are on the same IDE channel

Freezes with BeSweet have been known to happen when a machine is OC'ed even though everything else runs perfectly. BeSweet is even more demanding than CCE. The advice to run the Prime torture test is good advice. If you do have your machine OC'ed you should dial it back some.

and i don't have it overclocked..

You said it worked perfect before you got the new hardware when you did a few test chapters. I would look seriously at those new components. Remove the hardware and try the tests again. Maybe put the drive on the other IDE chain.

i wasnt running the torture test... i just tried that and got an error right away, however i dont know what that error is. the reuslts.txt says this

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.4999999092, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Was there no help to find in the Stress.txt file? Anyway, you seem to have found the culprit.

since i'm not overclocking i tried switching RAM with my other computer, and still received the error.. so i ruled out RAM.. my cpu is also at a normal temperature. i don't know what could be causing this error?

Go into the bios, find the area that deals with RAM and add a wait state. Also turn off fast read-write turnaround if it is on.

If everything started to happen after you got your new hdd try to take that out or switch it to the other IDE. This may work.
Another thing: what is the manufacter of your mainboard? I'm the only one that I now who has some crashes of a program that make XP freeze to. I have a Chaintech board and I'm sure it's because of this. I have the same series of hdd and CPU and RAM as one of my friends the only thing that differs is the board. His computer works much better then mine. Lets hope you don't have a Chaintech board.

Go to either of these websites and see if their forums can't help you figure out your computer problem. www.amdmb.com and www.anandtech.com both are great sources of info and help. Since we know know it's not a DVD2SVCD issue I think you are better served going to a site that actually deals with computer problems.
