I got 2 Chinese DVD movies ("In the Mood for Love" and "Roots and Branches") and am having trouble ripping them. I've tried both SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter and both failed. Both reported there is no copy protection on the disc. (DVD Decrypter says "Copy Protection System Type None" and Smartripper says "Current key Not Encrypted".

Both program managed to rip some vob files and both seem to stop at the same point of the same vob file. I suppose it's possible that the disk is scratched or something (DVD Decrypter gives ASPI command error and says some uncorrectable error on some sectors) but I have no trouble watching these movies on my DVD player and it seems too much of a coincidence when this problesm happens on two different DVDs. I have sucessfully ripped many movies before without any problem.

Any comments or solutions would be greatly appreciated:)

DVD Players dont seem to care about dodgy sectors, PC dvdrom drives do. It seems to vary from drive to drive just how well some of these discs read. Some work fine, other throw out lots of sector errors.
Hit retry a couple of times, and then just click ignore to move on to the next sector if it still doesnt work. Enabling 'Fast Error Skip' might speed things up a little.

have you tried encoding them direct from the dvd? (presuming you are encoding them into divx).
