hi just wondering is there a playback view that acts as a standalone dvd player that can check if the dvd will play perfectly on a stand alone. so i dont always burn to a dvdrw and then test then burn it to a dvdr i would like to test on pc then burn straight to dvdr without any probs..i burn a few movies with the new pioneer a04 drive and with the meritline purple disks and found it plays perfect. all the way through..
help would be appreciated.

I use PowerDVD 4.0 You can load the Video_TS file and see if everything works okay.

Guys,
Has anyone had any trouble writing to -rw on the a04? I have tried 5 disks and four have failed to burn, only 1 actually burnt and worked in a set top player.
I have had a word with pioneer, and am going to upgrade the firmware with the new patch.
Can anyone recommend dvd-rw media that works all the time?
Cheers

satkid: I have the 1.2 firmware on my A04 and have successfully burnt to Datasafe(Yellow) DVD-RW. Plays perfect on my Pioneer 444 standalone.

My DVR-104 is listed as having 1.10 firmware. I can record to TDK and Verbatim DVDRW discs without a problem. Not one failed burn and each of the DVDRW discs play fine on my Sony NS-700P and Panasonic DVD-RV26 players.

Most posts mention the A03 or A04 Is the 104 older, what's the differences?

The A03 and DVR-103 are the same drive, in the same manner that the A04 and DVR-104 are the same drive. The A0x designation is for the retail versions that come with blank media and say "Pioneer" on the front of the drives. The DVR-10x designation is for the OEM version.
