I have detailed every step I took to copy the DVD. I apologise if it is too long to read but gathering by some of the other posts I realise many of you need to know the exact steps I followed. This took so time to write so I would be really greatful for some replies. If this is in the wrong Forum, again I apologise, I'm new to this so wasn't sure if it should go here or the IfoEdit forum. Many Thanks for reading!
B4 I ask the question can I just say thanks to all those who contribute to these forums and web site. The information is quite brilliant and has certainly helped me understand the whole issue of how DVDs are created and how the work. Now to the point. I followed the basic IfoEdit guide and managed to get a version of the The Mummy down to a size which was recordable onto a DVD-5. It plays in IfoEdit OK from my HD (but no sound comes out, I have no idea why, anyone?). Anyway, I burnt it onto a DVD-5 using the A03, but not only doesn't it play on my stand-alone (Samsung 709), it won't even play from the A03. All the files seem to be there, the only thing is the label created was simply set to "NEW". I'm frustrated, I've wasted a few discs now trying different methods but no luck. I have a Athlon XP 2000+, ATI Radeon 8500, 40Gb HD, 512DDr and a Soundblaster Live. Can anyone help or advise! The following list details what I did:
1. Used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD to my HD
2. Tested using the DVD player in IfoEdit and ripped files played OK (but again no sound!).
3.Loaded up vts_01_0.ifo into IfoEdit, clicked on the "Menu Extras" button and clicked the boxes advised in the Guide.
4. Set the destination directory and then clicked "OK". Selected Language Unit 1 (the only one there) and then clicked "Strip It".
5. Selected to keep VOB-IDs 1-14. By my reckoning from what VOBRator tells me is that 1-3 is the main menu and 1-13 are the chapter selections. "Correct IFO tables" check box was ticked so clicked on "strip It".
6. Once VOBs created, loaded up the new vts_01_0.ifo in IfoEdit and it had got rid of VOB-ids 14-21.
7. I kept the whole of video_ts.vob because I wasn't sure what to get rid of. I actually didn't want anything from the VOB but then that would leave me without a video_ts.vob, so I kept it. I also copied the vts_01_x.* files into the new directory (Guide is not entirely clear as to what should be copied).
8. Back in IfoEdit I loaded up the new vts_01_0.ifo to get rid of the unwanted soundtracks and subtitles. Clicked on "VOB Extras" and checked the boxes as described in the Guide. Selected another destination directory and then clicked on "OK".
9. The English Audio (AC-3) and Subpicture streams were already selected and the "Correct IFO tables" check was was ticked, so I just clicked on "Strip It".
10. Once that was done I moved the missing files to the new directory and loaded the new ifo file into IfoEdit and all the extra gunk was indeed gone.
So far, so good ....
11. I then transcoded the DVD using ReMPEG2 using a bit rate reduction factor of 71% (from DVD-R Calculator). Again I used al the setting advised to in the Guide. I called the m2v file video.m2v.
12. Once that was done (which took ages) I opened up the vts_01_0.ifo file and clicked on "VOB Extras". Again used the setting advised by the guide and selected a destination directory as well as the directory where the .m2v file was kept. Clicked "OK".
13. Once done, copied the video_ts.* and vts_01_0.vob files into the new directory.
14. I checked it all worked OK using the IfoEdit DVD player. It played fine although there was no sound. The picture was a little grainy (I guess due to the bit rate reduction factor but I really just wanted to see if this process would work OK.
15. I then used NERO 5 to burn the DVD. It seems to have burnt OK. All the files are there but the volume label was set to NEW (I don't know if that makes a differnce).
16. I then tried to play it using my Samsung 709 and had no luck and then on my computer using the Pioneer and WinDVD. The green light came on the Pioneer so I guess it recognised it as a valid format but Win DVD would not play it.
And that is the end!
PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!
