I am (Batch) Confused?

OK I am really excited to hear we now have batch capabilities in my favorite program. But I am a little confused. Where is this batch file? What is it called? Do we rip all of the VOB files to one folder (3DVDs in one folder?)? Can someone please take the time to explain this to me....thanx in advance.

The readme file that comes with dvd2svcd is very clear on how to use the batch file.
Enhancement: If you use "Rip Only" DVD2SVCD will make a batch file in the same folder as DVD2SVCD. In this batch file DVD2SVCD adds a line each time you Rip a dvd. If for instance you have 3 dvd's to rip, you just rip those 3 dvd's into their own folder, and when done you run the batch file. DVD2SVCD will then convert the 3 dvd's without interaction from you. Needless to say, you will need a LOT OF SPACE in your target drive. Besides, it is your own responsability to edit the Batch file (deleting entries which has been done and so on)

What is the batch file called, If it is the batch.bat file how do I edit it?

You can edit any batch file, thats just a normal thing... if you go look in to your dvd2svcd folder you'll see a file called dvd2svcd.bat
you can edit it a few ways. Either go to your dos prompt and go to the dvd2svcd directory and type with out quotes "edit dvd2svcd.bat"
or you can open your windows explorer go to dvd2svcd directory and right click on the dvd2svcd.bat file and select edit.

If all you want to do is run the dvd2svcd.bat file just do it via the dos prompt or click on it. If you click on it before you do any ripping it will do nothing as it has not stored the information needed to do a batch run.

ok I was gonna wait to write up batch tips ...oh well here they are.

--Use internal routines and in dvd rip tab check it and also always have the select new default folder checked (lest you overwrite your existing vobs). Say you rip to d:\movie1....next one just put in the tab d:\movie2. I never knew you could just type in whatever folder you wanted and it'd be created. thanks to dvd2svcd for pointing this out to me...boy did I feel stupid.

--make sure that the "don't delete files" is unchecked to give you a little more space which you'll need. Cool thing is now 'Recover' works even with this option unchecked, which used to not be so. Figure anywhere from 10-20GB needed per movie. I have 60GB partition so I can do 3-5 movies at a time.

--use the Set folder structure to make it easier for you to delete the files after a successful burn. Keeping your bin cue images and possibly your vobs.

--say you rip 6 movies on your harddrive but only wish to encode 3 at a time. Just rem the others out. Delete any duplicates. Remember maintaing the batch file is up to you.

--Use autoshutdown so it'll turn off after say the third encode. Don't worry about the first two having it checked since the 2nd and 3rd will kick in immediately and interrupt that 60 second shutdown countdown and continue on.

--Put in your movie info and title picture. Don't worry about your cover1.jpg since it will not overwrite an existing one. cover1.jpg cover2.jpg, etc.

--After you rip only make sure to close out the dvd2svcd program and then re-open it. This way you eliminate the possibility of re-using your current title pic or existing movie info. Better safe than sorry.

My scenario is.....I rip 3 movies to 3 folders...say m1,m2,m3.

Each movie has different setiings to encode...eg force film, IVTC and different bitrates.
and subtitle info.

How can I get the dvd2svcd batch file to "recover" each setting from each ini file which is made when I create the settings for a movie?

Will it go to each output dir and load up the ini and then proceed?

Hi Mosaic,

if you follow mrbass little guide, DVD2SVCD will do the rest for you fully automated including remembering each setting you had set for the DVD because it will create a DVD2SVCD.ini and a "dvd2svcd project file.d2s" in every folder when using the "Internal routines" for the ripping step.

Um... I like to use smartripper and then ifoedit b4 I use dvd2svcd for encoding & pull down & perm subs since I am doing dvd2dvdr.

You see I need to make 1 PGC...as multiple PGC sometimes causes audio sync loss. Esp PGC with no audio. ALso....I remove multiangles & seamless branching for same reason.

So thts why I am wondering.....I don't use internal rip routines....

Well,

if you insist on using Smartripper, then the only way would be doing it like described in here - ok it's for AVI batch processing, but the method is the same:

But don't come back complaining "I have sync issues, bbMPEG stops muxing at xx% or CCE freezes at ..." as this can all be caused by using Smartripper together with DVD2SVCD - I won't help you then. :p

Besides that, DVD2SVCD's "Internal routines" can also deal pretty well with multi angles, seamless branching and whatever - so why using smartripper? Ok, the only advantage I can imagine is save you some space by ripping only the information you want from the VOBs - but I think it's usually only a marginal advantage, hard drives are cheap but time usually isn't - at least for me. ;)
