Hello
I have an asus v7700 deluxe and windows xp. I have the famous asus driver problem, no matter what resolution or famerate I choose I got about 15% dropped frames.
I've got the latest detonator driver installed and WDM 1.08 still got the problem. I've also trield 1.07 1.06 1.05 with the same fenomena.
suggestions are warm welcome
Anyone who got v7700 and xp and don't have a problem?

Enough is enough
I wont tell what i think of asus v7700 deluxe but it's ready for the trashes. Now I've tried windows me with asusdrivers and asuslive 4.60. detonator and so on, and different captureprograms.
I just can get rid of that annoying framedrop.
I going to buy a capturecard that works now, any suggestions?
I'm going to use Huffyuv codec so pinnacle dc10 for instance is not an option.
I only want a card that capture high quality video and have no other special features.

Try this way:
Uninstall WDM driver - Reboot
Uninstall Detonators - Reboot
Install Technogarb Asus Drivers 28.32 (http://www.maxreboot.com/technogarb) - Reboot
Install WDM 1.08 (*NOT* 1.11) - Reboot
WinXp finds&installs 4 media devices (not signed)
Works fine here, no frame dropped.

this may have nothing to do with any of this but is a possible solution. I have xp and somehow my computer got to were my hardrive wouldn't use dma, instead it use pio mode. after reading up after a few dma errors xp will make it were u can't use dma. my point is i was getting like a 15% loss using premiere then i went and got a ata 133 controller card which has nothing to do with xp controllers and now i get 0% loss. u can check what ur drive is set to only by going into control panel/administrative tools/computer management/device manager/ide controllers. once their click on properties and see if dma is enabled. unlike other os's u can't just right click drive in my computer and got to properties and check this. anyways i thought this might help if not sorry to take up so much space.

I appreciate the suggestions and I installed Technogarb Asus Drivers 28.32, and wdm 1.08, and have still the same problem.
It got to be something else, it can't be the drivers. I saw a message in another forum that someone else had the same problem as me and almost identical computer configuration/hardware. He had solved it as well so it got to be a way for me too.
Maybe it's something to do with the camcorder, but I've tried from VHS as well but not with this configuration though.
But I have acctually given up now.
Is there a capturecard that only capture with high quality and don't have any extra features? and please don't say asus :)

Did you read the FAQ?

If you have the official VIA latency patch or George's latency patch, try uninstalling them. Several people including myself have had bad experiences with the patches - frames drop intermittably.

Ooakmi, yes I read the faq but my problem is not of that nature, if I capture in 15 fps the result is in 12.5, if a capture in 30 the result is about 25. no matter if I choose sound or not or size or whatever. I caputure to a ibm disk 7200, 2 mb cache, used only for capturing (empty).
Is this something to do with ntsc, pal? I have a pal system.
VIA latency patch, I don't know what that is so I guess I don't have it. This is a completely fresh installation of xp and me. But I've installed via 4 in 1 driver later to see if it made any improvment.

Hmm... If you capture PAL then you should always use 25 (not 30 and certainly not below 25 :scared: )...
If you've optimized your system etc. you could try to use the VirtualDub Sync MOD. It's very good... Link in the FAQ.
Last note, if you do not notice the dropped frames then let them be :) .
Cheers,
Ookie.

Yep I tried that version, and I use it now. If I capture 25, the result will be something like 21 fps, so If I use 30 the result will be about 25 and that's what I'm aiming for.
The result in a 30 fps capture is alright. The playback is a little bit jerky but not much. I can live with it right now but it bothers me that it doesn't work perfectly. I would like to use capture alot.
On the other hand, a DV-camera with progressive scanning wouldn't hurt. To expensive right now but soon it'll be available at more acceptable price. And the quality is so extremly much better.

Wait a minute... With the VD sync version you get 21 FPS when capturing 25 FPS? Are you sure to have followed the manual of the author? If yes, then something's definitely wrong with your system/drivers etc. Have you tried one of the other freeware capture programs? What happens when you use the Asus capture software?
Hmm... Very strange...

Sorry, 21 wasn't true, it captures in 16.66667 if I want to capture in 25. But I found something interesting here..
16.6667 is 2/3 of 25. So 1/3 of all frames is lost.
capture in 15 fps results in 12.5, 1/6 is lost
30 -> 25, 1/6 is lost
29.96 -> 16.7
29.97 -> 25 !
100 -> 50
So if I enter 29.96 in capturesettings I still only get 16.667 fps, but 29.97 -> 25. This got to be some NTSC PAL problem.
I tried AVI IO as well with the same result.

NTSC - PAL? Why? If you capture from a PAL source then there should be no problem...
Try some of these programs:
http://ookami.iwebland.com/elist/capture.html
Like I said, recheck your system (IRQ probs... drivers...), recheck the settings in the programs and so on.
You could also try to work with Windows 98 SE (not that crappy ME edition).
If I get this right (you Win XP story), you should try a WDM capture program like iuVCR... VD is a VFW prog and needs a WDM wrapper if you use WDM drivers.
Er, I hope everything I said is correct if not, someone should write the real stuff :) .
Cheers,
Ookie.

NTSC - PAL? Why? If you capture from a PAL source then there should be no problem...
The reason I think so is because it can't just be a coincidence that 29.97 fps in settings (Full NTSC capture) result in 25 fps capture (Full Pal capture). 29.96 result in 16.66667 fps. that 0.01 less fps shouldn't really make any difference.
No matter what driver or operating system I use it still behaves the same.
I have now tested the graphiccard in another computer. Same result. (Vdub also win xp)
I won't try to fix this any more. I would prefer if someone could suggest another graphiccard of capturecard that have good quality.

Your card has "good" quality (according to those that use it)... The problem you have is not the quality, but dropped frames.
In the FAQ you'll find some threads about capture cards and similar.
I wonder why no one of those hardware freaks has no suggestion...
Anyway, good luck...

I've had your same problem of frames loss.
Installed *every* Detonator/Asus driver for win2k/xp.
Installed hundreds of different progs, even forced an (horrible) installation of an old AsusLive release.
Solved with a fresh OS setup + Technogarb Asus Drivers 22.xx + WDM 1.06.
Since then i updated every new release of Technogarb drivers and WDM 1.08 (WDM 1.11 gives a nice big white bar...).
Pay attention to *COMPLETLY* uninstall your previous driver, in doubt ask Brandon over Technogarb Forum (http://www.maxreboot.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=37).
Having 2 RAID array, 1 mirror for the os/apps etc. and 1 RAID0 for speed, i'm able to capture 720x576 uncompressed (tried only 2 mins...) without frames lost. Zero problems with huffyuv or Mjpeg.
P.S: I live in Italy, and even looking hard outside my windows i can't see your PC's specs from here. Could you post something about? ;)

YIIIHAAA!
Guess what?! IT WORKS! I found a solution!!
Right now I'm using nvidia detonatordriver and wdm 1.08 again. The solution was in the register. I don't know why it's necessary but there is a "videostandard" there (search for the word videostandard in register) and I changed both from NTSC to PAL. I use a swedish version of xp but there where still NTSC set as standard. Maybe the driver itself changed to NTSC or whatever.
But now i finally works. Can you belive it, I can't :-D
Thanks everyone for your support. Couldn't done this whitout Your help.

I'm copying/pasting something saved months ago:
"Goto "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM and then search for "VideoStandard" then replace each occurances value with "PAL" instead of "NTSC". Next time you reboot your default capture format will be PAL.
I also suspect that if you re-number the VPXComp, VPXSvideo and VPXTuner reg keys (listed under each of the VideoStandard ones) so that your preference has the value "VIN1" then you won't even have to bother changing your video input either.
