when creating a dvd image file in maestro you can select to have your material copyrighted but then not to have macrovision and allow copies to be made. selecting this option as opposed to no copyright affects the sector size that it uses in creating the dvd image. my question is - for dvd players that have trouble playing dvd-rs unless they perfectly conform to spec is this a sensible option as it will make the dvd-r more like a professional dvd in terms of the sector size etc.
any thoughts???

Are you sure it affects the "sector" size of the image when selecting the copyright option?! Even if it does, I really don't think it would make a non-DVD-R compatible player play DVD-Rs. The problem with the non comapatible drives are usually due to the pick ups not being able to read the DVD-R media itself. Just like in the old days alot of CD drives weren't able to read CD-Rs.

i have a player that the manufacturer says should play a dvd-r, i just havent been able to find one that plays yet! this is why i wondered as my player detects the disc as a dvd (hence it can read the disc) and does read cd-rs but gives a disc error message, as if the disc were faulty.

Usually that type of error is caused by "cheap" media or the software you used to burn it with on DVD players that can play DVD-Rs. I've had pretty sour results with Nero myself so I stick to other software like BHA B's Recorder Gold & Primo DVD. When ever I author a DVD movie with DVD Maestro and burn it with Nero, I have the same problems you do. You might wanna try using a different burnware if you're using Nero right now.
