Basically, "use but not abuse" sums it up.
Not that 519 hits in 45 mns is too much for a 100mbit server, not at all. But im carefully looking at logs, and i see some brainless people using GetRight and FlashGet with 15 and more (maximum was 25!) simultaneous connections.
This will not do.
Unfortunately, i will have to take note of all the ips of the trespassers (yes thats what im calling them) and PERMANENTLY BAN them on the server. Yes a lot of dialups can change ips, but yes, ill continue to check logs and add the new ones.
So, the ones experiencing temporary (5-10 seconds) failure of the mirror, its because someone f*c** up and im adding the ip to the blacklist and restarting the server. Im sorry, but there are limits on patience and good will. I shall NOT have a crawling server (whose intention is to serve people for free) due to a minority of jackasses.
Last note, im very VERY disappointed that the one ip that has been hammering the server constantly (about 3 connection attemps PER SECOND) is from my country. *looking at the small country flag near my monitor and sighing*
My deepest condolences to the mother of whoever is using 194.65.14.67 (proxy1.telepac.pt) to get the file using that outrageous and obnoxious method. Needless to say, its banned AND ignored from logs from now on.
