Add SRT subtitles to a Divx converting to SVCD

Can I add subtitles (srt file) to a divx (avi) when i converting with the option avi2svcd ?

First convert your subs to ssa format. You can find a converter somewhere in Doom9's.
Next use VirtualDub together with the subtitler filter to frameserve the avi to DVD2SVCD or TMPegEnc or CCE or whatever you like to use.

I do that a lot, but I still haven't found a way of not losing quality in the conversion process.

Anyway, since I want to watch my movies in the standalone dvd player, I do not have a choice, do I?
Yeah, I know I could use the PC Tv-Out, but that means that the PC has to be turned on (I hate that) and close to the TV I want to watch the movie in (it isn't) and besides, I don't think my GeForce-MX has good Tv-Out quality (if all Nvidia based cards are like this, then I just have to put my hands on the new Matrox when it arrives, forget about GF4 !!!)
