Lovely People,

I am going to buy either an A03 or an A04 for backing up my movies. On pioneers website it says in the spec-> features for the A03 this :-

"Supports DVD-R (4.7 Gbyte for General use and data only*)"

and also this :-

"This writer cannot write to either 3.95 GB or 4.7 GB media for DVD authoring."

Can somebody confirm if this is true(you people here seem to be doing it okay) and also there is no mention of the A04 on Pioneers website and I would like to know what the main difference between the A03 and A04, does anyone know or have a link ? I read somewhere on this forum that there is actually a limit of 4.34 Gig when Authoring DVD video material to a 4.7 Gig DVD-R with the A03, is there any truth in this.

Kind Regards
TheNSA....

There are DVDs for Authoring Use and DVDs for General Use.

The Pioneer A03 and A04 use the General Use DVDs. The Authoring Use disks are for the higher grade burners. They come in two flavours, 3.95GB and 4.7GB. Neither of them will work on the A03 or A04 and to be honest, they are a lot more expensive any way.

When they are talking about 4.7GB, they actually mean 4,700,000,000 bytes, which strictly speaking (1024 bytes being 1K) translates to that "real" 4.34GB
