Do I really need Pulldown if the source is NTSC 29.97 FR?

I have read the DVD2SVCD basic and advanced pdfs. I have searched all forums and I am still unclear as to when pulldown is mandatory.

Unless I am missing something, it is only needed with NTSC if it is film at 24 FPS. If it is not needed for a 29.97 NTSC source, can it be disabled inside of DVD2SVCD? It seems I am reading contridictory information.

This is just my opinion, but if the source is video based as most TV programs are then you do not need IVTC, FF or Pulldown. I always just encode the video at 29.97. However some shows are film based. I believe the Soprano's and other similar programs are this way and in this case you want to treat them as if they were a movie.
If you use Force Film or IVTC you need Pulldown as the video has been changed to 23.976 FPS. If you are sure the video was definately made at 29.97 then just shut off Forced Film in the DVD2AVI tab. This should also have the effect of shutting off pulldown as well.

Just as I thought. Since I am mostly ripping DVDs for backups, I use the trick of dropping a vob onto DVD2AVI and running it for a few mins to determine its FR and NTSC type.

I am going to try to disable pulldown in the future and see what the results are. No need wasting bandwidth if it can be avoided.

I was going to try it but if you put the mouse over the option it says
Off: always selects force film on

do some one nows something about this???

I am guessing it's a typo. Try it and watch the log file. If you don't see Force Film Activated! or IVTC will be performed you are all set.
