Tmpg Template creation ?

I want to create a Tmpg Text Template to load into Tmpg, but I’m not sure if I’ve doing it correctly. First, I load the VTS_01_0.IFO file into IfoEdit, then press the Tmpg T. button, it runs for about 20 minutes and then creates a TmpgTemplate.txt file (about 1.5 megs)inside the Video_ts folder. Is that correct? I am having a problem with Tmpg freezing when I load this file and I want to be sure I’m doing this part right. Thanks for your help.

This happens with me also.

Doom9's guide says it will probably freeze for 2 minutes. I left it 30min and still nothing, in the end i just done with out it and hoped the quality would still be okay.

It takes ages to do, even with a very fast pc.

I thought it had crashed, but I left it overnight to test it, and the next morning it had finished.

You can speed the process up by only using I frames.

GlenC is right, you can speed up things a lot if you only write I-frames to your template file. And make sure that loading the template is the last thing you do right before hitting the start button. On my mid-evil PIII-866Mhz it takes some 5-10 mins to load an I-frame-only template which is about 400 Kbytes in size.

well i have been trying to do the matrix r2,

So I created the template file in IFOEDIT which took about 10-15 minutes creating a 1.9mb file.

I have left my machine for an hour now and it still doesnt respond. all that happens is the cpu is at 99% and the mem usage of tmpgenc slowly increasin from 45 to now at 67mb.

This is I Frames only, and I am using a PIII 800mhz processor with 384mb ram on Win XP Pro.

anyway, rempg doesnt work for me either .. when I press encode it just sits and does nothing. CCE crashes at 10%

I wonder if I'm doing right the way I create a TMPG template file:
After loading the main movie's IFO file and pressing the "Create TMPG Template" button, IfoEdit does:
a) ask for a filename and what kind of frames (I,B,P) to include (I select I-Frames only here)
b) process the source VOBs
c) display a "Dialog" windows that shows the GOPs (I close that one with OK)
d) again scan the VOBs while creating the template file.

What I'd like to know is:
a) why are the VOBs scanned twice?
b) why does my template contain all frame types (not only the I-Frames I selected)?

....that IFOedit 0.9/0.91 have a bug creating TMPGenc Template. Try just using 0.88, and you'll have no problems (TMPGenc freeze only for an istant)

I got your e-mail, THANKS. You're right there is a bug in ver.90 & ver. 91. Ver. 88 works perferct, no freeze. Now I've got to learn the in's and out's of TMPG. Again Thanks.

My understanding is that this is not so much a bug as the create Tmpg template feature has been redesigned to be more powerful (but as a result perhaps more confusing, especially as I think the Tmpg guide is now out of date?)

Also, getting hold of Ifoedit 0.88 can be tricky as you must be a registered member of mpucoders forum to access previous versions of ifoedit, and as far as I can tell no new members are needed / allowed.

...that the creation of template in IfoEdit 0.90/91 is not with a bug, the process is change. But the resulting template doesn't work with TMPGenc, which freeze without solution. So the only way is to use version 0.88, waiting for the Great Derrow to produce a new version of Ifoedit that produce a working template.

All I can say is seens Lerch sent me ver.88. I am using TMPG without any freezing. But thanks krusada, for a more indeepth explaination.

It must be hard for Doom9 to keep the guides updated with so many program revisions.

Hmm.....

I noticed in ifoedit .91 that the template file for Tmpgenc often left out chunks of frames....like 20 at a time.
So when u scroll thru the frame IPB listing in the GOP section of TMPenc 2.54 you will see sections of frames without IPB markers.

Perhaps this is why TMPGenc m2v can't sync to audio when remuxing back to VOB.

I'd like to revisit this issue for a bit. I am using ifoedit .88 to create a template for the movie Iron Monkey. It draws me up a list of I-frames ending with frame 123,627. However, the movie contains a total of 154,500 frames. When I mistakenly used this 'short' template in tmpg, I got a video file that cut out that last part of the movie i.e. my resulting tmpg video file was missing the last 25,000 frames of the movie (a real bummer). I'm currently trying to work this problem, I haven't seen it on any posts, has anyone else experienced ifoedit producing short templates? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks in advance.
p.s. (potentially dumb question) Is there a way to manually produce a tmpg template? It looks like I-frames appear every 12 frames, but then once in a while it shifts.

I'm having the same problems with IfoEdit creating too short of templates. Happens both with the latest version and the .88 version.

I'm sorry guy's,
I didn't know that anybody will be using this button, cause it still doesn't work that well with NTSC movies.
But many others reported successes with PAL movies. I might work well though.

So I forgot to write a guide, how to use this button. The button function has changed a bit in the newer versions of IfoEdit, and works a bit different.

I have to start with a bunch of compliments for your great work of course :)
Now - the neverending problem of 'remuxing' m2v-files back from TMEPEnc (which is better than ReMPEG, I think).

I am referring to PAL only !!!

Using the somewhat shortened method (to care for the I-frames only) does not always give working results, as we know (seems to be the case with interlaced material especially).

Using 'create T-Template' without marking a 'standard suite' leads to such a big file that TMPEGEnc freezes oder even crashes.

If you don't be afraid of 2 hours extra-work
1) you split your main movie into its cells
2) you treat each cell separately with creating the full template
3) you 'remux' each cell with this m2v-file
4) you join the (now smaller) cells to a new set of VOB-Files

This always gave excellent results so far.

BTW - its easy to decide to keep a bunch of the original cells if you are somewhat close to the 4.3 GB boundary.

I even dared to mix ORIGINAL cells - ReMPEG cells and TMPEGEnc cells and it all played well on my standallone.
