Greetings
I just completed my first SVCD to DVD conversion, and found out that my Sony DVP-NS700P will play it fine, but if I try to play the original SVCDs (on CDRs) they won't play. Is this typical? I was really shocked when this happened (but happy)! Aspect ratio was perfect widescreen. I thought only players that could play SVCDs in the first place could play these DVDs?

DVD-R is meant to work on any player and comes real close (I personally haven't had any fail to work unless I screwed it up myself). It works with the same playback laser and software that is standard for a manufactured DVD.

Many older players didn't come with dual lasers and CD-R media wasn't reflecting the wavelength (while manufactured CDs did). In addition, many (even newer ones) don't have the firmware modifications to support SVCD.
