View Full Version : Audio totally screwed up after splitting movie

Hopefully this is an easy problem:) I have a few movies that I compressed to divx 4.11 using gknot. When I play the moves as they are (1 1.4gb file), they play great. When I split the file into two parts using virtual dub, the sound gets screwed up. The second half has no sound at all. The first half plays sound, but it only plays for the first 15-20 minutes (and it is playing the sound from the very end of the movie). Anyone have any idea why this is happening? This is on a northwood 2.4 running XP.

Thanks!!

Is the audio VBR? Have you tried splitting in Nandub?

I believe it's VBR. I pretty much used the default audio settings in gknot. I don't know for 100% sure though. I haven't tried Nandub since virtualdub has always worked.... I'll try nandub and see what happens:)

Okay, it seems that nandub is working:) I guess I'll just start using nandub instead.....

Thanks for the help:)

You're welcome. You've got to use Nandub for those VBR's. But remember: Only for your audio, since Nandub is Divx 3.11 ONLY.
(Another tip is: Check out the guides at www.doom9.org)

Nandub only works with divx 3.11? Even with direct stream copy? My file is a divx 4.11 and nandub split it just fine....

Direct stream copy ignores the encoding and transfers the stream.

GKnot uses Vdub for video, and then Nandub to interleav (mux) audio, when doing DivX4 encodings.

Okay. Now I understand:) Thanks for the help! I'm slowly getting better at this stuff:)

It takes a while. But don't worry, it gets easier.

You may want to read through Doom9's guide to GKnot with DivX5 or XviD, even though you may continue to use DivX4 for some time to come. I recommend it because those two encoders are not yet "built-in" to GKnot, and much of the job set up is done manually in Vdub and Nandub. You can see a little further under the covers that way, even if you elect not to use XviD or DivX5.
