i'm new to xp and wdm (was a previous user of win98 SE and vfw).
i'm using duron800, 256M ram, fastcom tv card (bt878+phillips tuner) + fm tuner.
when i used it on win98, all worked fine, including capture video/audio, audio fm etc (i tried both vfw and wdm drivers, both worked fine, but eventually i sticked to the vfw drivers).
now i moved to xp, and my tv card is not recognizes, so i downloaded the latest wdm drivers for that product (few months old), and installed it.
my problem is that now the audio out of my tv card doesn't turn on (video seems ok). (sound card is working properly and tv-audio out is connected to the soundcard line in, and line in is enabled in the mixer with high volume :).)
i also tried iulab drivers, btwincap drivers (latest 5-apr-2002 or similar), nothing. no audio. one problem is that i don't know the exact features of my card (i lost the manual some time ago and not much info on the website), except that it uses bt878, some kind of phillips tuner, and supports fm. so btwincap might have worked, but i still didn't find the manual setting to make it do the job.
i have few questions:
0. what exactly does wdm relates to? is it for hardware only? (i.e. divx4 installes ok, and it's vfw driver right? no wdm there)
1. what are all the wdm driver components installed (wdm crossbar/wdm audio capture, wdm video capture, tuner etc)
2. what are the different devices assoctated with the tv-card as seen on hardware properties page (multimedia controller/multimedia video controller/etc) and what is the meanning of each one.
3. can xp accept hardware drivers (or even just system driver files as .vxd/.dll/.sys) which are not wdm (for audio and/or video)? am i asking the right question?
4. i read that's it's possible to install some components that are not wdm. if that is the case, what should i install as wdm, and what not that affects the card audio out (i have the feeling we might be suprised to find it's the video component)? and how to do it?, since all the drivers i've seen so far (wdm or not) install all the audio/video components in one go, separating the card drivers installations seems a tough job.
5. what would i loose if some of the omponents are not wdm?

while messing with the tv card drivers (installing and uninstalling many), i installed the vfw drivers, which caused the audio to work, but the install process had some error, and eventually i had no video, but it seems something from the win98 drivers might be functional on xp.
