How do I find out the exact height of the image of an SVCD. The frame height is 480x480 but the image is about 480x216 i think. How can I get this value exactly without estimating?
Also, when I encode this file to DivX 5 should I leave it at the original resolution of 480x216 or should I change it, and if so, to what size?
Cheers

Use dvd2avi on the SVCD MPG and save a d2v project file.
Open the d2v file in TMpg and use the clip filter to find the exact height. Use the thumb to hit several spots in the movie to confirm the height (and the top) stay consistent thoughout the movie (some movies move up and down a little).
SVCD is 4:3. Most avi is 1:1. When converting, you need to convert the 480x480 to the equivalent of 640x480 (or 480*360 if you don't want to up-size). Your 480x216 would become 640x216 (or 480x162).

OK. I've clipped in DVD2AVI and the frame size is 480x272. I then import the file into VirtualDub and use the telecide filter.
I am then using Precise Bicubic (A=1.00) resize to 640x272 from the DVD2AVI size of 480x272.
Is this right?
Cheers
